Ruling Questions about attack cost and Energy Retrieval

1. if a pokemon only has 1 attack that requires 3 fighting energy.
can I attach 4 electric energy?

2. energy retrieval says two cards. can i select one energy?

3. is there a thread on pokemon tcg 101? i recently quit yugioh and now moving to pokemon. i just want to get caught up as much as i can!

Yes, but it still doesn't let you use the attack because you don't have the right type of energy to use its attack.

2. energy retrieval says two cards. can i select one energy?

Only if you only have one eligible energy in your Discard Pile.

just expanding upon this. If you have 2 basic energies in your discard pile, must take both of them, you cannot choose only one of them. But if you only have one basic energy in your discard pile, then you may play Energy Retrievel and only take that one.
