Ruling Reprinted cards

My question is: if a card is reprinted on a new set, can I use its older version even if rotated?

Practical example: Phantom Forces was rotated, but VS seeker is present in Roaring Skies. Does the rotation demands that I use the secret rare VS Seeker from ROS or I can still use my regular ones from PHF?
Does this applies to XY promos as well? Let's say I wanna use Yveltal-EX, would I need to use the shiny reprint or can I use the one from XY1 or even the older XY promo?

I think this is probably an easy question, but since I'm entering competitive for the first time I need to know this in order to save me a few bucks :p

If one version of a card is legal in a format, all prints of the same card are also legal. This also works for reprints the other way - you could use the new N from Fates Collide in Expanded without waiting the 21 days for news sets to be legal.
