Ok I dont understand how to use this energy.
Scenario: I have a yanmega that gets knocked do i get the yanmega and the yanma that it evolved from or just the yanmega? Help me out

You take the pokemon and the rest of its pre-evolutions, and discard all the Energy, including Rescue Energy and Pokemon Tools attached to the card.
