BW/BW2 Restrictions on Vitamins?

I started EV training my Ralts for Attack (it's going to evolve to Gallade) and it started at level 4, once it was level 12 after nonstop Patrat and Lillipup dominating, I decided to give it vitamins. I gave it about 3 or 4 Proteins, but after I gave it another it said "it won't have any effect", and I'm pretty sure the limit is 10. Am I missing something? How can I give it more vitamins?

I did the same thing with my Haxorus, and it wouldn't even let me give it 4. So it's not just Ralts....

On both of them? A Ralts going from level 4 to level 12 gives it 255 EVs? I didn't think it would max out that fast....he's now level 13 and his attack is only 17

At early levels Effort Values put into stats aren't immediately noticeable like they are at later levels, so having an Attack stat of 17 is probably understandable. (Though with the "silent" EV system in Black and White, maybe that's changed?)

As far as the vitamins thing goes, I was under the impression you couldn't use vitamins on a stat if you'd given a Pokémon 100 EVs in the stat the vitamin pertains to. According to Bulbapedia, "vitamins give a Pokémon 10 EV points to a stat, only working if the EVs of the stat raised are less than 100, and if the total EVs are less than 510." I'm not quite getting the wording used there, so I'm not sure if I'm right or not.

It means you can only give 10 vitamins per stat to a pokemon, since they get 10 EVs per vitamin (10x10 = 100) to help. But I totally forgot I couldve used a Macho Brace to help until it was past level 10 (I don't quite remember when) and I had given it vitamins, but only 3 or 4. That's only 30 or 40 EVs compared to 100, which is the limit. What I'm wondering is, why did it limit me to 3 or 4 if the limit really is 10? I don't want to keep EV training my Ralts if it's going to be useless and it won't gain any more EVs....I'm just totally confused.

I think I get what Bulbapedia is saying now. You can give the pokemon 10, but only if it didn't gain any other EVs. In other words, I might have used up 60 or 70 EVs before I used the vitamins. Although I really don't think gaining only 8 levels uses up 60-70 EVs with Patrat and Lillipup :\

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. I guess that's the case.

Are you keeping track of the EVs you get as you go? That would be a sure-fire way of figuring out if you had 60-70 points by the time you went to use vitamins.

you cant surpass 100 EV's in a stat with vitamins. so you have 110 Atk EV's vitamins wont work on attack anymore and so on.

Ok I see! I'm kind of new to EV training, so is it normal to already have 100 EVs in 8 levels without using a lot of vitamins?

AnD no, not really, I haven't been keeping track. I'm just doubting that I beat that many Patrat and Lillipup so quickly.

The EV gain itself all depends on how many of something you've KO'd, and it's quite easy to get to 100 EVs in a stat with low levels, especially if you have a Power Item/Macho Brace, and Pokerus. Unfortunately past that I can't tell you much. In the future I recommend using vitamins before you start anything else.

PS: Levels and EVs are completely unrelated, EVs are gained through KOing a pokemon similar to EXP, but they aren't linked.

The number of levels gained while EV training isn't what matters, really. Since you're low level and you're training against other Pokémon around your level, level ups just happen. So yeah, it's probably normal, depending on how many Pokémon you faint before you level up. For example, if you're fainting 15 Lillipup / Patrat before leveling up, you'll have gained 120 EVs by the time you've leveled up 8 times. (If you're not using EV-Boosting items.)

What does matter is how many Pokémon you've fainted. For example, I've gotten all of my EVs without leveling up once - this was because I was a high level and the Pokémon I was EV training against were low levels.

Just make sure you keep track of how many Pokémon you faint and the number of EVs you get from each one. Keeping track of how much PP you use is the easiest way of keeping track, I've found. (Like if you have 10 PP to use and you're getting 2 EVs per Pokémon, when you're at 0 PP you've gained 20 EVs. Assuming you're knocking them out in one hit, of course.)

Thanks for the help! I appreciate it! :) I just don't think I realized Ralts already has that many EVs. It means I can easily maximize its Attack EVs before level 50!

i usually keep track by keeping tally. i know that with the macho brace i get ten EV's for every set of tally's. if you are maxing out a stat and lose track its fine just go till you really feel like you have faced 200+ poke (i did that i forgot like 20 tally's and i was like what ever just go till i face about 200). also i have wrote down my EV spreads and move sets on a peice of paper so it looks like this:

HP Attack Defense Sp Attack Sp Defense Speed

then just write how many EV's you want in each stat and add or keep tally till you reach that goal. it usually doesnt take that long. it took me about 6 hours per poke

6 hours is "not that long"!? How much do you kids game these days!? :p

I was helping my sister grind her Oshawott few days back and I couldn't even tolerate 35 minutes of nonstop killing wild lilipups

I'm not home schooled. Public school is meh, but I like seeing my friends :p the only thing I don't like about school is that my boyfriend doesn't go to the same school.

Whoops, better get back on topic! Sorry Mods :( anyway, yeah, I probably just need to keep track.

good thing the rest of my friends are home school lol.

ALSO where do you get all the vitamins from? ive only gotten the ones you get from just running around in the wilderness (lol sorry its late and im tired)? wehre is the big department store in this game?
