Ruling Retreating

Hi Everyone,

I read somewhere that you cannot retreat a pokemon that has just been brought into play on the same turn. Is that true?

For example, if my active pokemon is KOed, and I bring up Pokemon X from the bench. I play my hand (items, trainers, etc...) then, for whatever reason, I decide (before attacking) that I don't want Pokemon X up anymore. Can I retreat it and bring up another one from the bench even though it was just brought into play? If not, then can I use "Switch"?

Thanks!

You can do either. Where did you read that you couldn't?

This is actually a very common strategy. Players will promote a Pokemon with free retreat, or one with a Float Stone attached, after a knockout so they can play out their turn before retreating for free into whichever Pokemon they want to attack with.

I honestly don't remember where I read that. When I first started playing, I would go on random forums for answers, and I guess some of them were not legit. Thanks for your help guys!

To avoid confusion. While you can only retreat once per turn, you can play as many switches/escape ropes as you like. :)
