Ruling RETRO question: Base-Set Machamp's Strikes Back

It says that "This Power can't be used when Machamp is already Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed when your opponent attacks.

I'd like to know, what if Machamp is NOT Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed before the attack, but DURING the attack, Machamp become Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed? Does the Power activate or not? Let's use this example.

I couldn't find any existing rulings, but I would think the key word is "when your opponent attacks". When your opponent attacked, it was not. It only became affected after that point.
