Returning to the game and needing advice.

I've always been more of a collector of Pokemon cards but I'm looking to move into possibly competing. I go to a league occasionally but I rarely play unless it's a prerelease.
I'm looking to build a deck around Meganium Prime but I know it's not a popular choice, so I have no idea what I could pair with it to make it a decent deck.
Or if there are any decks that would be recommended to a beginner to test out.
Any help/tips/advice would be very much appreciated :)
 
Meganium Prime is a hard card to use right now, since it doesn't have a good attack and most grass attackers are really bad.

As far as good decks for a beginner to try out, Reshiram/Typhlosion is very simple and it's looking like it will get better after ND is released.
