Revolution Against EXs?

While the scans from Cold Flare/Freeze Bolt don't seem to suggest it, does anyone think we will see a return of punishment toward EXs? Right now, all I can think of is Boufflant and Sigilyph's Ability that really target EXs.

Let me explain-when EX cards were first released, they proved to be very very very popular, and each set seemed to have more and more EXs available. By Unseen Forces, EX cards were a staple in every single deck, and although I was not a very competitive player back then, I can assume they played a very large part in the meta. I think Crystal Guardians is the first set that introduced a multitude of Pokemon bent on taking out EXs. For example, a good majority of the 'Rare' cards had attacks that either did (if the defending Pokemon was an EX) extra damage, caused a status condition, or both. If your opponent had an EX in play, some stage 2 Pokemon had an ability (overzealous) that increased damage done to EXs by 30. Now, where am I going with all of this?

The question I wish to pose is do you think the return of these type of attacks is possible with the return of the EX cards? With Lv. X 'leveling down' the Pokemon was really all that you could do to 'affect' it (if memory serves.)

I personally would love to see cards like this return, some of my favorite cards were from Dragon Frontiers-Smeargle and Gligar stand out. Basic Pokemon, mediocre HP, but they did 20 for one energy and a status condition. (That got you a lot farther back when the EX sets were legal, now the damage would need to be upped a little to survive in our meta.)

What do you guys think?

I suggest you refer to the original ex cards with lowercase letters, so "ex" and the newer EX cards with capitol letters, so "EX". This is how people commonly differentiate between the two to prevent confusion when discussing things such as this.

I think we might see the return of it in the future, and it would certainly be a cool thing. Let's also not forget how Latias* and Rayquaza* broke matches just because they targeted ex's. I think if we saw something like this return in the future, it would make for a very exciting meta.

It is definitely a trending cycle. It is all about marketing strategy, the first sign of powerful basics was Zekrom, Reshiram, and Kyreum. The basics received more power with the release of EX's and the game was so fast that stage 2's couldn't survive without some sort of lock. This obviously caused a lot of stir and the game sort of died to a lot of people (including me). Pokemon rotated HG-SS out completely and slowed down the game dramatically which is allowing stage 2's a come back, along with EX counters (Boufflant & Sigilyph). It is all about equalizing the game; rise of the EX's = hype + money income and after awhile the hype will die and something new is needed. Thus the dragons come along and the come back of stage 2's (Garchomp/Alteria). Soon (well not that soon) the EX's will be rotated out and something new will pop up (like lvl. EX's with hp of 250+ or something crazy like that). Vileplume seems to hate EX's also, there will be so many rougue decks with the upcoming Vileplume that will destroy EX's.

All of this is obvious, but somebody has to state it. I hope this helped you out.
