DPPt/HGSS RMT: My team for my 100-Win Battle Tower Attempt

I've gotten sixty-eight in a row, then haxxed by two Horn Drill OHKOs. I'm so close to a black card on Pokemon Pearl, but this is starting to get tough and annoying. So, I need your help on my BT team.

My team:

Garchomp @ Yache Berry
-Dragon Claw
-Crunch
-Swords Dance
-Earthquake
Jolly: 252 Atk/252 Spd

Not changing Garchomp. He's saved me a BUNCH.

Suicune @ Lefties
-Surf
-Rest
-Sleep Talk
-Calm Mind
Relaxed: (it's the Shiny from Gamestop) 252 HP/252 Def

Saved me a lot too, so won't change this moveset unless there is absolutely a better moveset.

Raikou @ Shuca Berry
-Thunderbolt
-Aura Sphere
-Shadow Ball
-Extremespeed
Mild: (Shiny...) 252 SAtk/252 Spd

This one's kind of a let-down. It's not the most powerful even though it's quick, (though its Speed stat is lower than Garchomp's at Level 50...), and I think this one needs replacing. Help with the set, or new Pokemon.

Garchomp SD's on the first turn and sweeps. Suicune helps out if I'm being abused by Ice-type Pokemon, and Raikou just kinda cleans up the mess.

Remember: I got sixty-eight with this team, so this is pretty solid. I just need something better.

Thanks guys!

RE: RMT: My 100-Win Battle Tower Attempt.

I would recommend Gengar for your team to replace Raikou. It's got 3 immunities (including one to that pesky Horn Drill), high Speed and a high Sp. Attack.

Gengar @ Lefties
-Substitute
-Shadow Ball
-Focus Blast
-Hidden Power Fire/Hypnosis
Timid: 252 SAtk/252 Spd

Set up Sub and proceed to KO everything with Shadow Ball, Focus Blast, and HP Fire. Or, use Hypnosis when the going gets rough to get another Sub in. Rinse and repeat.

RE: RMT: My 100-Win Battle Tower Attempt.

That's a great replacement. I don't think I'll spend too much time trying to get HP Fire though. Is Thunderbolt any good on Gengar? I ran into a few Moltres and Zapdos during my last BT experience and Raikou was a big help.

RE: RMT: My 100-Win Battle Tower Attempt.

Yeah I guess T-Bolt would be a decent replacement. Never know when you might need an electric attack.

RE: RMT: My 100-Win Battle Tower Attempt.

Have you tried a Pokemon with U-turn? That way you can hit and Switch to another Pokemon during battle or use a Pokemon with Baton Pass to up your Defense on the Switching Pokemon? I see your Suicune has Calm mind so why not try a Ninjask with Swords Dance and Baton Pass and U-Turn and see if that helps. I don't see why this new addition would not work. Since Nijask is a Bug Type Horn Attack will not be very effective and could do very little Damage. You can also use a Schukle with that one move that switches stats with the defending Pokemon too. Can't remember the move but it is the one that switches the Pokemon's defenses withe the opponents Pokemon. I think it is called Power Swap or something XD.:)

RE: RMT: My 100-Win Battle Tower Attempt.

I know this sounds cheap, but you might consider putting Tyranitar on your team as a lead. He can do all sorts of fun stuff: set up Rocks, attack from either a physical or special angle (depending on preference), can chip away at people with Sandstorm (and nullify Sashes), and best of all - set up Garchomp's Sand Veil. That way you could turn the hax a BIT more in your favor.

You don't need to change your third member to reflect Sandstorm necessarily; however it definitely wouldn't be a bad idea. There are all sorts of nice Rock/Ground/Steel Pokemon out there, but Raikou and Suicune are pretty solid as well (I'd keep the Suicune if you choose to go the path of Tyranitar). If you do want another Sandstorm-themed guy, I recommend Metagross. It has access to Agility, which after just 1 you'll outspeed nearly everything, and his signature move Meteor Mash is just amazing; even with 85% accuracy you should always try to run it, because that 100 BP and that Attack-raising chance is just too good to pass up.

Oh, by the way:
Gengar @ Lefties
BLACK SLUDGE, not Lefties. Don't forget - Gengar is Poison-type! He also lets you stick Lefties on another member of your team to go with it.
Thunderbolt is phenomenal on Gengar. I've never really believed in the Shadow Ball/Focus Blast strategy myself, since Focus Blast never hits when you need it to. Instead I prefer a Sludge Bomb/Thunderbolt/Giga Drain/Explosion set; Shadow Ball can hit a few more things more ably than Sludge Bomb can, but don't laugh - Sludge Bomb is Gengar's strongest move in terms of sheer power, and it's got a solid chance of inflicting poison as well. Thunderbolt is just a great reliable move, and Giga Drain is for getting some lost HP back (that, and it prevents things like Swampert from walling you...and no one expects it!). Explosion is great to just go out with a bang, and even on Gengar's base 65 Attack, a 500 BP move can do a LOT of damage. Plus, Gengar's really fast and he'll probably land it first. (Or you could use Destiny Bond instead.)

RE: RMT: My 100-Win Battle Tower Attempt.

Oops! Already started breeding for Timid Gastlys lol. AND YES. Black Sludge! I almost forgot about that. Thanks for bringing that up. Sludge Bomb. Is that a TM? This is why I stay in the TCG forums...

RE: RMT: My 100-Win Battle Tower Attempt.

Sludge Bomb is TM36, so you're fine.

Well, this is Generation 4 we're talking about, so even if you use Explosion on a Timid nature, it will still do a hefty amount of damage even with zero investment. My Gengar in Gen 4 is Hasty so I'm a bit more fortunate, but even so, you don't really need to worry. Timid is a good nature anyway; either Timid or Hasty is fine. (it's the nature for my Gen 5 Gengar, but it doesn't have Explosion; even so it's still a threat).

RE: RMT: My 100-Win Battle Tower Attempt.

You could also do a Pokemon with Reflect to boost the Defense of your whole Team for a few turns. I am not sure the best Pokemon to use Relect but Raichu can get it Zapdos and I think Articuno can and most Bug Type Pokemon can too ifI am not mistaken. You have some pretty good Pokemon but you might want to edit their Movesets or consider switching one of your Pokemon out though.:)

RE: RMT: My 100-Win Battle Tower Attempt.

I would love to set up screens, but Garchomp has been consistent throughout my BT experience.

My Gengar, Timid, has IVs: 28/30/29/29/12/29. So I'm feeling pretty confident.

RE: RMT: My 100-Win Battle Tower Attempt.

If you decide to go with ttar/garchomp, I'd like to mention Heatran. He's compatable with the sand and can sponge the dragon moves aimed at garchomp. He's not your best option, but he does deserve some thought.

RE: RMT: My 100-Win Battle Tower Attempt.

Have you tried Latias or Latios yet? If not they might be a bit better or you could do Flygon with EQ and Sand Tombe and Sandstorm. Flygon can deal pretty good damage with his move Pool and so can Latios/Latis with Soul Dew attached.:)

RE: RMT: My 100-Win Battle Tower Attempt.

Just so you know, the effect of Soul Dew is disabled in the Battle Tower.

Also, Garchomp is better than Flygon in virtually every way.

RE: RMT: My 100-Win Battle Tower Attempt.

What? Soul Dew is disabled? I never knew that. I suggested Flygon because of the mass of moves that he has and he has preey high Attack but He does get U-Turn and a few other moves that Garchomp can't obtain unless you use an AR to obtain them anyway. I don't recall Soul Dew ever being disabled though. That blows.:(

RE: RMT: My 100-Win Battle Tower Attempt.

I'm sticking with Gengar guys.

Garchomp/Suicune/Gengar. May not be perfect, but I'm not willing to spend nteenth hours on this anymore. -__- Thanks for all your help!
