Chapter 03 ~ Lost In Blue
The world of Pokémon - a mysterious place filled with magical creatures of all shapes and sizes. Along with these amazing creatures are the humans, acting as trainers, breeders, co-ordinators, watchers, nurses, friends and family. Living together in harmony.
In this world, the humans and Pokémon are divided. Some humans use Pokémon for evil, turning them against their own kind. Team Rocket was the last such group of humans to fall, defeated at the hands of two of the most experienced trainers.
Their Boss was the last to go. She battled to the very last, but she was destroyed by her own greed.
Few loyal to the Rockets remain. But they are there, watching from the shadows. Searching for a special place where they can revive their Boss. Only one Pokémon in the world has the power to restore her - Unown…
On the glistening blue ocean, a small boat sped towards a group of islands known as Hanlanger. The water sparkled as Pokémon swam and jumped through the water, following the boat to see where it is going.
On the deck of the boat stood a tall woman wearing tight blue jeans and a tight purple top. Her long blonde hair flowed past her shoulders, curling its way down. She lifted her small hand from the railing and brushed a curl out of her sapphire eyes.
By her feet sat her most treasured Pokémon - Piki, a Pachirisu - licking her snow-white tail clean. A bright pink strip stretched right from the tips of her tiny ears to the end of her fluffy tail. She giggled as her trainer petted her.
There was another woman watching her - a woman dressed in a tight black cat-suit. Her eyes were yellow and wide. She looked at Piki with a deep hunger.
“Want it…” she uttered.
“Hey!” I said as I ran over to my sister.
I passed the hungry lady and glared at her. She whimpered and fled.
“Howdy,” my sister smilesd at me.
Mimi took a moment to take in my new look fully.
“You look really great,” she said.
Wow. A compliment from my big sister, how awesome (she rarely said anything nice about the way I look).
I was now wearing green shoes and knee-high black socks, stretching almost to my matching green skirt. Covering my torso was a tight black top under an open lime shirt. My hair was now partially hidden by my green hat, but two bundles of blonde hair stuck out at either side of my head.
“I know,” I grinned.
Mimi shook her head and sat down next to the fluffy white squirrel. Piki stopped cleaning herself and leapt up into her trainer’s arms.
“Cutie,” she gleamed.
I smiled down at them. It felt so good to be here with her. I couldn’t have asked for a better companion to travel with me. I turned to face the ocean, clutching the railing tightly with both hands. I watched a group of blue sea-horse swim around, playfully blowing bubbles at each other. I laughed.
The brightness faded as a dark cloud passed overhead. I looked up at it. For a moment it looked like there was someone smiling at me from inside the cloud. There was a sudden flash of many wide eyes in my mind. I felt dizzy and began to sway. I felt someone hands, one on my waist, the other holding my wrist.
“Are you ok?” Mimi asked.
“Chichi?” Piki patted at my legs.
I took in a deep breath. The dizziness had passed.
“I’m fine,” I lied.
I was so not fine. What had just happened? Did it have anything to do with the vision of mirrors I had during my battle with Harmony? I wished I had the answers. So many eyes. God, I felt so dizzy again. I looked out at the blue. It seemed distorted somehow, like it was being flushed down a drain.
The distortion grew and swallowed up the boat and everyone on it. It felt like my body was being ripped in two…
I woke up on a small island in the middle of the ocean. I do not use the world small lightly. There was almost nothing here - a few trees but that was it.
I wandered around for a little while, searching for any clue as to what had happened to Mimi, Piki and the boat.
“Are you lost?” a soft feminine voice asked.
I turned around to face a woman with pale skin wearing a pink shirt and skirt under a white apron. Her rose coloured hair was tied into two rings at either side of her head.
“Who are you?” I asked.
“Joy,” she said plainly.
“Where did you come from?” I circled around her.
This island was way too small. I had covered the entire are, there is no way I could not have seen her earlier. She literally appeared out of thin air.
“Thin air apparently,” she lifted her left hand to her mouth and giggled. “Sorry,” she smiled and cleared her throat.
She could read my mind.
“Of course,” she said, “this
is your mind after all.”
Looking back on this entire incident, I wonder why I did not run and scream and get as far away from her as I possible could. To be honest, I’m glad I didn’t. This little freaky incident was insignificant compared to what came afterwards…
“She needs your help,” Joy took a step towards me, “she cannot continue to hold them back.”
“Who?” I took a step away from her.
The eyes. The image of the thousands of eyes I saw earlier flashed back into my mind. I heard voices, so many voices, calling out for help. I couldn’t focus on anything. Everything was spinning, falling, tumbling, going away, everything was going away. All gone.
“They can’t get through!” I cried out as I sat up.
“Ah!” Mimi screamed. “You’re awake!”
Her curly hair bounced as she bolted out of the door.
I was in an infirmary of sorts. One plain white bed in a plain white room on the plain white boat. Why would anyone want to come here? Why did I think that? What wanted to come through. I wish I knew.
“Ah, you’re awake,” an old male voice said.
I turned to face an short balding man wearing a lab coat.
“What’s going on?” I asked.
The old man said nothing. Instead, he pulled out a pair of glasses, stuck them on and began studying a chart attached to the foot of the bed.
“You collapsed again,” Mimi explained. “Just like you did at Evergrande.”
“Oh,” I sighed and looked down towards the doctor man.
I didn’t notice the woman who came, although I heard her soft feminine voice. I sent me back to my vision of Nurse Joy. What had happened there? I thought, someone must be trying to tell me something. But…why me? Thinking more on it, I began to think, did it actually happen or was it just a dream…
The doctor wanted me to stay in the white room overnight, just in case I “fainted” again. Mimi had gone back to her room at my request. I did not want her to see me so weak.
I was always the strong one in the family. While Mimi got so much special treatment, I had to learn how to look after myself. It was hard, I hated it, but am glad for it because…because I wouldn’t be the same person if it hadn’t happened that way.
I wondered what my mum and dad were doing at that moment. Just as Mimi and I were starting off on a new adventure, were they still leading a boring life? Probably…
There was a sudden crash!
I bolted upright and leapt out of the bed.
I looked so wonderful in my sexy new blue trousers and shirt. Nice!
I walked cautiously through the door to where the noise had come from - the doctor’s office. Inside was a simple white desk and brown leather swivel chair (very comfortable). A medicine cabinet was in the corner, opposite a gorgeous tiny bonsai tree. Cute!
Anyways, the cabinet had been broken open. I immediately cam to the conclusion that someone had stolen some kind of medicine. And there was no way that would go well. But, who would want to steal medicine? Unless they were sick, I couldn’t really think of any other purpose.
I wandered about for a little while in the dark night, searching for any clues. I walked down cold, empty corridors, passing by many silent rooms. Several times I thought I saw something out of the corner of my eye, but each time there was nothing.
When I reached the stairs leading up to the deck, I decided to just go back to bed and discuss it with the doctor first thing in the morning. Back in my room, I huddled under the covers and tried to sleep. Every time I closed my eyes all I could see were those eyes. Why had they come back to haunt me now? Did they have something to do with the missing medicine? I simply didn’t understand…
I slept for a few hours but woke up around four. I climbed out of the white bed and shivered as my feet touched the cold white floor. I moved silently over to the window and peered out. I watched several blue serpents swim peacefully by, turning their horned heads to smile at the boat as it passed. One of them stretched its cloud-like ears and used them to fly out of the water. The rest joined in and they all flew away, leaving behind a small rainbow. It was quite beautiful.
But it wasn’t enough to distract me from the vision I had of the eyes and Joy. And what of the mirror room with the tiny voice that warned me of the shadow woman. Who could she be?
“Please!” I screamed. “HELP ME!”
I covered my face with my eyes and fell to my knees, sobbing. Why me? Why had this thing chose me? I didn’t want to be involved. All I wanted was to journey to the Battle Frontier with my big sister and compete in eight challenging battles. Was that too much to ask?
I shook my head and rose, peering back out of the window. I could see a group of red balls floating using their green leafy propellers. They were so cute. One moved right up close to the window and tapped it with its tiny pink hand.
“Hello,” I forced a smile.
The Hoppip pressed both hands against the window and looked at me worryingly. I could tell it sensed my pain. I smiled more easily now, knowing that someone understood that something was really wrong here. The Hoppip cheered and dashed off to join its friends.
I thought about telling Mimi about my visions, what I had been seeing. Maybe she could help me out. Or, maybe, it might just make me feel better to talk about it and get someone else’s perspective on it.
I wasn’t sure and decided to wait. Right now, all it was, was a vision, a dream. It shouldn’t mean anything. Sure, both times I did pass out, but it’s not gotten any severer than that. I would wait and, if it got worse, then I would seek help. Sounded good, in theory.
“Hey,” I heard my sister’s voice behind me.
I turned to face her in her fluffy pink dressing gown, complete with a white electric squirrel on her head.
“Chi?” Piki jumped down and ran across the cold floor towards me.
I knelt down and scooped her up in my arms, tickling her under the chin.
“Hey there cutie-pie,” I whispered.
“Chiihiihii!” she giggled.
“How are you feeling?” Mimi asked as she walked towards me.
My big sister knelt down beside me, placing a hand on my shoulder.
“I’m better, thanks,” I smiled weakly.
My sister said nothing but smiled. I wanted to tell her what was going on, all about my visions, Joy, the eyes and that scared little girl.
I stood up, still holding the white squirrel, and said, “let’s go for a walk.”
The three of us walked through all the halls, passing by all the open doors to cabins that were closed last night. Then I remembered about the medicine. We climbed the stairs to the deck and walked over to the railing at the edge and looked out to the big blue void.
It was so empty now, nothing swimming about, having fun. Not today. It made me a little sad, seeing the ocean so lifeless.
“There may be nothing out there now,” a woman said, “but remember, they’re all off on new adventures, just like you.”
I turned to face a woman wearing a white apron over a pink shirt and top, with her rose coloured hair tied into two rings by her ears.
“Hi, my name is Joy, what’s yours?” she extended a hand.
I took it and replied, “Kimi.”
She released me, smiled and walked away.
“See you soon,” she said as the left, “Kimi.”
Joy walked down the deck to the other side of the boat. I shuddered. It was her, the woman from my vision. Did that mean that everything else I saw would happen in some form or another?
“Are you ok?” Mimi asked.
I nodded but remained silent.
“Chiip?” Piki looked up at me and licked my chin.
I giggled and returned her to her trainer.
“I gotta go!” I turned away and ran after Joy.
I ran down the deck and turned the corner at the back of the boat, expecting to see the pink woman. Instead, I bumped into a woman dressed in complete black.
“Sorry,” I said and looked at her.
It was the cat woman I had seen the day before. She was still squashed into her tight leathers.
Her yellow eyes widened angrily and she snarled, “Watch it!”
Her voice was quite squeaky, it worried me a bit.
“I’m sorry,” I smiled briefly and darted past her.
She muttered something under her breath that I didn’t quite catch. I wasn’t interested in her then anyway, Joy was my priority.
I spied the nurse talked to the doctor who had helped me when I fainted. They were talking about the missing medicine. I stayed back and listened to their conversation.
“Oh no!” Joy gasped, “That’s terrible!”
“I know, I know,” the doctor said. “We need to find out who did this.”
“Without that medicine, that poor baby won’t survive.” Joy wiped a tear from her eye.
The doctor took her by the shoulders and said reassuringly, “We’ll find the person who did this, I’ve already contacted Officer Jenny at Juxa Port, no-one will be allowed to leave the boat until the medicine is found.”
Joy looked deeply into his eyes, “Thank you.”
The doctor hugged her and left. The pink woman then turned to face the ocean and inhaled deeply.
“Nurse Joy?” I asked as I approached her, “Can I talk with you for a moment?”
She turned to face me and forced a smile, “Of course dear,” she said.
“I…” I began.
I stopped when I realised that this was not the time to be discussing my problem. Right now, there was someone in great need of medicine which was missing.
“I…I would like to, um, help, help you find out who stole the medicine,” I placed a hand on her shoulder , “Is there anything I can do?”
“Not really,” Joy looked out into the deep blue, “There’s nothing we can do until we reach Juxa, Jenny’s there, she’ll get to the bottom of this.”
“Ok,” I stared at her for a few moments and then walked away.
I decided it would be best to leave her alone for a while, she needed time to sort this out.
I returned to the other side of the boat where I had left my sister and Piki. They were not there. I thought nothing of it, thinking they had simply returned to their room. I headed there, hoping to find them.
I knocked on the door. There was no response. I forced the door open and found it empty, except for her remaining five PokéBalls, which was very strange because she always had them with her. It was then that I realised that something was terribly wrong.
I picked one of the balls up and tossed it into the air.
It flashed open, releasing the energy trapped within. The white light flowed down to the floor and took the form of blue ball holding two cotton ball pompoms, with another bobbing back and forth on its head. It hovered just slightly, its tiny blue feet just touching the floor.
“Jum?” she asked.
“Do you know where Mimi is?” I asked Jumpluff.
“Jum,” she shook her head from side to side.
“We need to find her,” I said. “Something is very wrong on this boat,”
I snatched up the rest of the PokéBalls and returned Jumpluff to hers in a beam of red. I bolted from the room and made my way back up to the deck.
I ran round to the back of the boat and round again to the front, passing Nurse Joy on my way. She went to say something but I ignored her. She chased after me.
When we reached the front of the boat, we saw Kimi and Piki tied up right at the edge.
“Not a step closer,” a squeaky voice said.
We turned our attention to face where the voice came from.
It was the cat-suit woman. Her yellow eyes were filled with anger and hate.
“What are you doing?” Joy asked fearfully.
I pulled out a PokéBall, ready to send out Gardevoir. The dark woman quickly grabbed my sister, holding her close.
“Do you really want to risk it?” Joy asked. “If you send something out to attack her, you’re sister will get it too, it’s too dangerous.”
I sighed angrily and returned the ball to my belt.
“Let my sister go!” I ordered.
“Sorry, can’t do that kiddo,” the woman sneered, “Orders are orders.”
“Orders?” I echoed.
“Orders,” cat-suit repeated.
She pressed something in her ear and a tiny microphone slid down to her mouth.
“I’m in position,” she said into it. “Get ready to go to phase two.”
Cat-suit turned her attention back to me and smiled, “Won’t be long now.”
The wind picked up and a shadow loomed overhead. It was a helicopter. A rope-ladder dropped down and cat-suit climbed onto it, taking my tied-up sister with her.
“Up we go,” she said into the microphone.
Nothing happened. Someone was talking to her on the other end but I couldn’t make it out.
“What do you mean?” she asked angrily. “Of course I have it!”
It? The medicine! She must’ve taken it!
“Yes, yes!” she was growing impatient. “Everything is here, I’ve got the drug, I’ve got the girl and I’ve got the tablet! Just pull me up!”
The ladder went up and up, right into the helicopter. It moved away, slowly at first and then sped off into the distance, taking the medicine and my sister with it.
“NO!” I screamed.
I ran to the front of the boat where Mimi had been. I had lost her, just after we’d gotten back together. What was I going to do now? I had no idea who they were or what they wanted, all I knew was that my sister had something to do with it. Her, some drug and a tablet. That wasn’t enough information to go on. I’d have to travel on my own to find her.
“I will find you,” I sobbed. “I promise.”
