Rotations and Formats

I've been reading posts that suggest cards older than the XY base set are going to be rotated out. I was under the impression that 'formats' stayed around for a few years. In other words I thought that cards BCR onwards would still be legal in the Standard Format for a few years. I'm a bit alarmed as I've been investing in lots of BCR cards for a unique deck archetype I'm working on and want to play it at Leagues. So will the Standard Format become XY onwards soon? Like, from the middle of next year?

tPCI announces a format rotation every year, which takes effect shortly after Worlds. This year's format for Standard is BCR-on. This will continue until Worlds of next year, after which a new rotation will take place. The rotation is typically announced in the early summer, atound the time of US Nationals. So don't worry, all of those BCR cards will be perfectly legal for the rest of the season. There won't be any confirmation of what the next format will be, but XY-on does seem like a possibility. Again, you won't have to worry about that until nine months from now. There have been a couple of surprises, like the 2009-2010 season not having a rotation, but these are pretty rare. With the Expanded format in place, you acn expect a yearly rotation.

I assume that at the end of this season, Boundaries Crossed, the Plasma Sets, and Legendary Treasures will be rotated. After the 2015-16 season, XY, FlashFire, and Furious Fists will rotate.
