Hey guys, what's up. It's Wariopower here. So as some of you may know, I started high school a few weeks ago. It's great, I love it, but with school comes classes, and with classes comes Biology. Since you are probably wondering why I'm talking about my school and classes, is because I have think of a science project with a hypothesis for this class. The main point for this thread however is if you guys have any awesome ideas for projects because I'm brain dead. Thanks guys! Have a good one. =]

Do a project about the physics behind the Gravitron ride. Make a scale model, and show how the physical properties can improve NASA space technology. It got me a spot in the national scince fair in Georgia.

is it optional? if so dont do it.
its cool to go to state... but I hate working on those things.

One year I tried to see which would grow more mold over a course of 3 weeks hahahah
out of bread, oranges, and cheese.

take pictures half way though each week and at the beginning. so 7 pictures total (one at the end.)
it smells bad though. GOOD LUCK FINDING WHAT TO DO!

Thanks for the ideas guys. I'm sure I'll figure out something awesome to do with your guys help. And yes it is manditory that I do, so I want to do something good and I'm sure you guys have great suggestions. :D

oh i got it.
try different types of rockets powered by water and alka seltzer, baking soda and vinegar, and diet coke and mentos.
try all three with different amounts of each and compare flight results.

you can make them out of film cases for cameras (you know, those little black and gray cases for holding film?

Ohhhhh yeah. That's a good one. We used to do that rocket thing all the time in middle school. :D

If this was Physics class, it'd be a good idea. But it's Biology. ;[

I would do a project on how Temperature/Elevation effect how many of a certain animal lives in an area.

Blow a cow up

But, seriously, the good ol' "mold-increase-over-time" experiment is always a favorite. If you're looking for something simple, that is.

If you're looking for something more difficult, you can try sociological experiments. Or ones on human behavior, like "why are teens so stressed?", or, "how does peer pressure influence students' work in school?", etc.

Okay, here we go, time for an awesome more than one quote post:

That could work, and it wouldn't be that hard. For the hypothesis, I could do like: "If it gets too cold in the winter for birds, then they migrate south."

Thanks TPO3.

THE COW!!! :D No jk, but yeah, those ideas work too! Thanks Gale and everyone. =]

hahah hypothesis
"If you blow up a bigger cow, its debris will be spread out further."

GOOD LUCK

LOL

Currently, I'm doing Chemistry in school, so my advice might not be of much help.

I love doing Diet Coke and Mentos. :) There's a video on YouTube showing an "explosion" of coke.

If you have access to Litmus Paper, you could test lots of different liquids to see if they're acidic or basic. We're doing this right now in Science.

EDIT: I just thought of an awesome idea for the cow expariment.

Find a bunch of different elements (ask your Science teacher), and test reactivity with water (which is what a cow's stomach is full of). If the cow blows up, the element is reactive with water. :)

You could grow your own crystals and test different environments to grow them in. Then you could see which environment produced a greater amount of crystallization over a set amount of time.

Try diffrerent alkaline metals with water.,.. oh no thats chemistry :(

Something thats always fun is disection. If you have the guts for it, you could do somethign that involved opening up animals to see what makes em tick. Make a hypothesis like "A frog is able to move in a certain way because of its strong leg muscles in this place" or something like that.

Base your project off something that interests you.

For example, if you have a pet cat, and want to know how it can jump so high, my advice would not be to dissect it, as it is your cat, but do as much as you can for that experiment.

So ask yourself something you've always wanted to know. Whether you're walking through the hallways at school, or sitting down and reading a book, if a sudden wondering comes to you, write it down. You'd be amazed at how helpful they can become.

Cool ideas, everyone. Thanks for the help.

As I thought you might be interested to know, I went with comparing two different oranges, refridgerated and non-refridgerated. I then compared which would grow mold quicker. So yeah, I went with the mold one. Thanks again. =]

UGGHH. If you go higher up, judges hate those projects. Get as original as you can. Make it something that they turn off the 80's radio on the car ride home and think about how that one kids project might actually go somewhere.

LOL. I don't think he's intending to blow himself up anyway!

But on topic. You could study the behavior of squirrels....
