  • 4 Trevenant XY1 (beatdown)
  • 4 Phantump XY9 (evolution)
  • 1 Wobbuffet (beatdown)
  • 2 Shaymin EX (draw)
Trainers/Supporters/Stadiums (36):

  • 1 AZ (retrieve)
  • 3 N (draw)
  • 4 Burst Balloon (beatdown)
  • 4 Trainer's Mail (search)
  • 1 Super Rod (retrieval)
  • 4 Vs Seeker (retrieval)
  • 1 Eco Arm (retrieval)
  • 2 Level Ball (search)
  • 4 Ultra Ball (search)
  • 4 Dimensional Valley (enable)
Energy (10):
  • 3 Mystery Energy
  • 7 Psychic Energy
Strategy:

Go first and start with Phantump. Use Trainer’s Mail and Shaymin Ex to search for Wally and evolve into Trevenant. Make sure to have another Phantump on the bench. Attach Burst Balloon and evolve the benched Phantump and Break-evolve the active Trevenant next turn. Disrupt the opponent with Burst Balloon and N. Wobbuffet acts as a cleaner while Eco Arm and Super Rod retrieve lost tools and Pokémon.

Following are some thoughts for your consideration:

Trevenant and Trevenant BREAK have 100 and 160 HP respectively and are susceptible to 1HKO by most decks . Incorporating a few Hard Charm, Training Center, and/or Assault Vest could help prolong their respective HP.

Your main Pokémon Weakness will most likely position you at a near auto-loss when playing against opponents running Dark decks. Have you considered other alternate attackers to mitigate this risk (other than Wobbuffet)?

Burst Balloon may not deter an opponent from 1HKO'ing your Trevenant if the opponent's active Poké can take the responsive effect's 6 damage counters since Trevenant will require at least 2 manual energy attachments before Tree Slam can be used again.

Silent Fear may require too many turns to build up enough damage counters on the opponent's field before any substantial damage is done. Secondly, an opponent could play a Parallel City to remove his/her severely wounded Pokémon from his/her field. Have you considered Meowstic and its Ear Influence attack?

Wobbuffet definitely has some advantages, but you may want to incorporate an Item or Tool-based means to remove it out of the active position when needed.

I hope you find these comments helpful.

Hi TuxedoBlack,

Thanks for all the assistance. The Darkness weakness is an issue for sure since Darkness decks that are less reliant on items will be able to overrun this deck and those are more common here than the built with Gallade. In fact my main deck at the moment focuses on Zoroark and Yveltal.

Not entire sure on the defensive tools. Assault Vest indeed looks tempting but Trevenant does not seem to deal enough damage without Burst Balloon or Muscle Band. The deck wants the opponent to hit into Burst Balloon to accelerate damage. Took out Level Ball for a fourth Balloon to make the deck a little more offensive. What are your thoughts on these considerations? Would be real interested in your take on the optimal tool choices for this deck?

I agree with you on Silent Fear. It is a nice back up attack but the focus sure is on Tree Slam due to cards such as Parallel City and Rough Seas. The latter is more specific to certain decks and Trevenant does not seem to have a bad match up against those decks.

Have not considered Meowstic thus far because deck space is limited and I had troubles to fit a stable line of Meowstics. In addition there are cards that limit its use such as the ones listed above. What are your experiences with Meowstic thus far since I never used it?

I also agree that one more switching card and a second Super Rod would be nice since I tend to play this deck rather offensive. Any idea on how to fit either or both of them into the deck?

Hi folks,

Included a video and revised the deck based on a few additional test runs. In essence Muscle Band has been taken out for Eco Arm and a fourth Burst Balloon in addition to one Level Ball. The revised version is a little more focused on control and indirect damage acceleration.

Hello!

I think you should Run more Wally for sure. This would help if you didnt have 2 phantumps on the bench firs turn, in case they one shot your first trevenant and you need a replacement fast (entei decks). Its always nice to have it ready in your first hand as well.

I love the idea of running balloons in this. Amazing anti-march and + wobbuffet damage. I would keep them at a 4.

I would drop Giovanni for this one as the +20 damage has low appeal. If the trevenants are not working you have already lost. Trade for a more effective draw support. Tierno may be an option. I would even go with another AZ.

Running 4/3/3 trevenant Would be a lot safer, I Figure you will need 2 Trevenant breaks for wobbufette to be effective before you throw him out. Those prize cards are jerks n whatnot. Also since ou are running 4 sycamore, the extra security couldn't hurt.

Delinquent is most effective when paired with a red card. With as many decks that run octillery now, This card may be hurting you in the long run as it is only effective if the opponent has very few card in their hand.

You need something to deal with Zoroak. People run him in every deck imaginable, not just dark decks. He can seriously do damage since hes not stuck on the bench.
I'm still testing different options myself as he is becoming more and more of a problem, I'll let you know if I come up with anything lol. Enhanced hammers and megaphones are my only advice for right now. If you can't kill him keep him at bay.

Look into Misty, she is so freaking versatile. I can't think of a single deck that wouldn't benefit from this card.

I run most of everything with 2 lysandre. Gotta keep them heavy hitters out of the hot zone so you can load up damage counters with Trevenant.

I like ace trainer, but im iffy on its value here. Teammates might be more beneficial. Something to test maybe.

All in all its seems like it could work well. Let me know how any changes work :)

Hi Greg,

Thanks for the review. The number of Trevenant and Trevenant Break cards worked well for me. Tried a 4-3-3 line and it was less consistant. The main reason is that Trevenant Break needs a turn one Trevenant to be most effective and the deck at least has super Rod to retrieve lost Pokémon.

Tried a version of this deck with more Wally but no Battle Compressor since this card is hard to obtain over here. However that build was less consistant than the Battle Compressor build. The main idea here is to use Battle Compressor to discard one Wally and two tech supporters turn one. to have instant access to Wally with Vs Seeker. Since the deck runs four Vs Seeker two Wally seem to be sufficient. Also note that Phantump can evolve into Trevenant on his own if the deck does not go first. This means that we are in essence talking about an engine for a turn one Trevenant when going first. I feel that the Battle Compressor engine with two Wally is a more consistant method to do so compared to no Battle Compressor and more Wally. The Battle Compressor engine also allows the deck to run more tech supporter and thins the deck at the same time. The first Battle Compressor usually discards Wally in addition to Ace Trainer and Delinquent. Both are inteded to be disruption card with the former one also serving as shuffle draw.

Delinquent is indeed most effectove with Red Card when intended to be used first turn. However there is still a chance that the opponent obtains a draw supporter or Shaymin Ex. In the middel of the game Delinquent can become a real pain combined with item lock. The idea is to have Delinquent in the discard as a bluff. Make them discard valued resources to obtain more cards and wait until their hand size becomes low in the middle of the match to use her with Vs Seeker. Note that the opponent will still be item locked and it is therefore harder for them to set up.

Giovanni's Scheme is another tech supporter. I love this card because it is real versatile and can be used to either draw or increase damage on the battlefield for a critical knock out. I can see where you are coming from with the idea to remove him since Trevenant Break is focused on damage counters and Burst Balloon is the main tool in this deck. Nevertheless I do like Giovanni's scheme because it is so versatile and can even enable a critical knock out from time to time. still will check out Team Mates as an alternative. Tierno is less efective as a draw engine and Shauna and Prof. Birch seem less versatile and do not draw that much more than Giovanni's Scheme. I know that these arguments are weaker compared to the others but Giovanni's Scheme is a personal preference.

The reason to include it was that it allows Trevenant to knock out Pokémon Ex in two hits. Muscle Band was a little less effective than Burst Balloon. I like that tool and think that lock decks are the best means to abuse it.

The darkness weakness is an issue for sure. Zoroark can ohko Trevenant and Trevenant Break once I have two Pokémon benched with either the new stadium or Giovanni's Scheme. However he is an evolution and item lock can slow down attackers that need to evolve. Yveltal non-Ex is more of an issue since it is fast and self-sufficient and can hit for weakness. The new version would even turn off Burst Balloon and hit Shaymin Ex on the bench.

These card were the main reason to include Ace Trainer to allow the deck to make a comeback. You can also follow up Ace Trainer with Delinqunet if the opponent has a harder time to recover from the disruption. However I will also check out Teammates to see if it works better. Ace Trainer was an idea that stem from the Greninja deck I am using. On usual this deck sets up fast but will most likely loose the first Frogadier after having attacked with Water Clone. Since the Greninja deck also uses a Battle Compressor engine it retrieved Ace Trainer from the discard to disrupt the opponent at that point while drawing some more cards at the same time. I liked how it worked in the other deck and decided to check it out in this one too.

Again, thanls for the review and please let me know what you think about my comments and how your version worked out thus far. Thanks for the assistance in advance.

Hi folks,

Revised the deck to include some of the tech supporters proposed on the basis of some test runs. Please let me know what you think about the revised version.
