Hey, I'm new to these forums, I came here a little while ago because I was written into MUCKSTER's fic "The Birth of an Articuno"(check that out, by the way- it's good stuff) as the character Ace. And I decided I'd try my hand at writing a story as well. I guess I should warn you all that this is going to be a PG-13 fic, things are going to get pretty intense. Anyway, without further adieu...

Prologue: At the Edge of Hope

It's amazing how when you get the things you wish for, you find you don't want them anymore. Say you're wishing for a little excitement, for example. Then things go crazy, and soon you wish you were back home in your safe, warm bed.

That's what happened to me. My name is Ray, and I'm a sixteen-year-old boy. I used to live in Saffron City, because my father worked at Silph Co. Now, I don't know where I am, or what I'm doing, for that matter. There are a few others here, besides me. But I get the feeling that we're all in way over our heads. There's not much time left. Very soon, everything will end...

Let me take you back to when it all began...

Look for chapter one by sometime tomorrow night.

I'd post it now, but it's really long, and it's not done yet.

Alrighty, here's chapter one! I hope you all enjoy it.

Chapter One: Falling Apart

"Come on, Mom," I pleaded. "I never get to see Dad at work. Let me go, just this once. I promise I'll go straight there, and straight back."

"I don't know," my mother said. "You know how I feel about those scientists at Silph Co. They're always running these crazy experiments - if you ask me, they're dangerous. I can't stop your father from working there, but I always worry about something going wrong, and you getting hurt... but if you want to go this badly, then I guess I should let you."

"Aw, thanks! You're the best!" I grabbed a bag from my mother's arms and sped out the door. "I'll be back soon!"

It's not that I even wanted to go see Dad, I just wanted to do something. Anything, really. Life in Saffron City was so boring. There was no one my age around me, except for the girl who lived next door who collects Clefairy Dolls and copies everything you say. My dream was to become a Pokemon Trainer, but my mother dismissed the notion, saying "It's too dangerous". So I was stuck here in Saffron, leading a boring life. All I wanted was something exciting to happen. But here, in the most boring city on Earth, I was certain to have a dull life.

If only I could have known how wrong I was.

Now this bag I was taking to my father, it contained little more than a change of clothes. Silph Co. had recently begun a top-secret experiment in their laboratories, and all the scientists on staff - including my father - were working through the night again. I never really knew what went on in that building. On the rare occasions I saw Dad, he would bring home some sort of high-tech gadget that he had invented, and attempt to explain it to me... but I would never be able to understand what he was talking about. The world of science was never one that I felt the need to be a part of. I always wondered if Dad was disappointed that I wasn't like him.

I reached the end of the block and rounded a corner. The magnificent Silph Co. building rose hundreds of stories into the sky above me. It's truly one of the most amazing buildings in Kanto. Too bad it's full of stuffy scientists who basically never leave it.

I entered the building. Dad's office was on one of the floors nearest the top, so I got on the elevator and rode it up.

Suddenly, everything went black. The elevator stopped moving, rocked back and forth a bit, and then stopped. I began to panic. Fortunately a failsafe kicked in, and the doors were forced open by a jolt of reserve power. I scrambled out into the main building.

"Floor 37," a sign on the wall said. Well that's all right, Dad's on floor 40,I thought. I can walk the rest of the way. I turned to the left and began to walk towards the staircase, when an explosion knocked me to the ground.

The wall had blown up behind me. A man with a bluish-green bowlcut and wearing a futuristic suit with a "G" emblem on the front darted through the hole that had been created. I attempted to press my self against the wall to hide, but I was too late- he saw me.

"What... some kid?" He looked puzzled, and seemed to be weighing a few options in his mind. Reaching a conclusion, he pulled a Pokeball from his belt, and said "Houndoom... use Flamethrower."

The Houndoom materialized and quickly shot a blast of fire from its mouth straight at me. I barely was able to duck into the staircase and shut the door behind me. That man looked to be from Team Galactic... I thought. But what does this mean? Team Galactic disbanded once their leader, Cyrus, went missing... and besides, they were based in the Sinnoh region... what's going on? I have to find Dad.

A red glare and a pounding on the door in front of me told me that the Houndoom was closing in. I ran up a few floors and found myself on Floor 40, where my dad works. Upon running into the hallway I saw a Silph Co. scientist giving orders to a Porygon-Z, who quickly shot a Tri-Attack at a Croagunk being commanded by another man dressed like a Team Galactic member. The Croagunk was too quick, though. It lept to the side of the attack and hit Porygon-Z straight on with Brick Break. The Pokemon flew back into the scientist, knocking him unconscious. Unfortunatly, the Galactic member then saw me, and the Croagunk sped in my direction. I took off down the hallway.

Realizing I needed to hide, quickly, I rounded the corner at the end of the hallway and ducked inside the first room I came too. I quickly shut and locked the door behind me, and tried not to make a sound.

I heard a thump on the door. The Croagunk had found me anyway. And a barking sound told me that the Houndoom was closing in as well. I needed to disappear, and fast. I looked around the room for an escape route. I found one in the air ducts in the ceiling. I'm pretty strong, so I was able to pull myself inside.

It was actually pretty spacious inside the duct, after crawling for a while I found that I could stand up completely. So I walked along the duct, not entirely sure of what I was going to do next, when I heard a familiar voice:

"I won't let you go any farther!" It was my dad.

At first I thought he was speaking to me! I looked around, but there was nobody but me up in the ducts. Then i realized I could look down into the room below me. Inside I saw my father speaking to a man I had never seen before - he had long, ocean-blue hair and a wicked scar running down his face.

"Stand aside..." the man said. "I'd rather not spill your blood over this office."

My dad ignored the comment. "Who are you... a member of Team Galactic?"

The man laughed. "You're surprised, aren't you? Yes, I've heard the stories, about how the once-great Team Galactic was brought to its knees by some insolent boy... What was his name? Lucas? Never mind that. That idiot Cyrus messed everything up, and look at us now... we're in ruins...

I'm sure you've heard of the three Commanders of Team Galactic, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn? But I wonder, did you know there was a fourth? Me... Commander Neptune... the strongest of them all! New leader of Team Galactic!"

"You're supposed to be disbanded," my father said. “You couldn't gain control of the Pokemon that created Sinnoh, your plans failed, you have nothing to fight for anymore!”

“You fool! Dialga and Palkia didn't create Sinnoh! And as many times as I said this to Cyrus, he ignored me. The fool went ahead with his misguided plans, and ran our beautiful organization into the ground, all for the sake of capturing the mere puppets of the true prize... for you see, behind Palkia and Dialga is an even more incredible Pokemon... a literal god! And I would seek to control this power.”

“You're insane,” spat my father. “Power like that can't be controlled by the likes of a human.”

“That is not for you to decide! Now I will voice my demands simply, so that your lesser mind might be able to comprehend it. You will surrender immediately to me and my men and turn over the results of your recent experiment. As it stands, acquiring Silph Co.'s technology is the first step I must take in order to make my dream a reality. You will do this without struggling. Cooperate, and most of you may survive...”

My father grabbed a Pokeball from inside his lab coat. “Nobody's going to barge into MY laboratory and give ME orders! I've heard enough out of you. Go, Umbreon!”

My father's Umbreon appeared. It was his most powerful Pokemon, so I knew that it was impossible for him to lose... right?

But I never got to see the battle. Right then, I felt somebody grab me from behind.

“Don't say a word,” a voice said. “If you want to live, don't even move.”

My heart leapt into my throat.

I had been found.
