What is the "proper" way to shuffle, so that your cards won't fall out and you won't see them?

Because I know this one guy who shuffles with the deck facing up, but says he doesn't look at the cards. I still don't believe him, so what IS the proper way to shuffle your deck?

Well, there is no "rulebook" way to shuffle, but I'm pretty sure you can't shuffle face up.
Really, just figure out what kind of shuffling you are good with and stick with it.

Well as long as the cards are not facing you, other words you can't see the cards. By the way the kid that is shuffling "face up" If he does that at a large event report the shuffle there is no way he should get away with looking at his cards he knows that he can see his cards

I wouldn't allow that. Id ask the player to shuffle face down.

Neither player should be able to see the cards in the deck during a shuffle.

If you don't like how your opponent is shuffling his/her deck, you can always shuffle it yourself. After your shuffle, your opponent can cut the deck once. If still not happy (or your opponent doesn't allow you to shuffle), you can call for a judge and ask them to shuffle. After the judges shuffle, neither player can cut the deck.

I don't see the big deal about shuffling face up before the match starts. I do it two or three times a tourney, to prevent my cards from getting horribly wrecked (I shuffle like a mad man). Basically, I normally do a 6 pile, then a 7 pile, then a random number pile, then shuffle the heck out of my deck.
