Has anyone ever noticed that the base set Alakazam has the exact same poke-power as Alakazam 4 Lv.X, except for the SP part?
Kinda weird.

i think they did that on purpose lol...

I've noticed it before, but i can't remember the other lol, ill post if i remember them

they do the same thing with t/s/s, most of them are similar to attacks. IE:
cyrus Cons = Lapras GE
clayol GE/Uxie LA = Volkners Phil.
Drifblim SF = rosy

this are jsut a few

Yeah, I noticed that. It's no big deal, Nintendo's just running out of ideas again (hard to come by in these times, lol).

But they aren't the same pokemon/trainer. they could have at least given the power to a different pokemon.

Certain pokemon seem to fulfill the same role multiple times. Often their cards do similar things.

Kinda like how Charizard seems to hate having energies attached to it.

What Medaforcer said makes sense. Of course pokemon are individuals, but they also have their similarities.

pokemon are like people :p, were all different but still have similarity's, theres also similarity's in family, see squirtle SW and platinum blastoise both have attacks that are similar in nature but 1 requires a flip, its almost like 1 grows up to become the other

Yes, but it's always possible to derive a new role for a Pokemon. There are 493 out there, and even more with the different forms. Hell, some of the spoilers in this thread are better than some of the actual cards.

Certain Pokemon just obtained their own "theme", a few examples:
- Charizard: Huge damage for Energy Discard
- Blastoise: Water Energy Attachment
- Raichu: See Charizard
- Machamp: Flip coins
- Swalot: Damage based on opponents/own HP
- Nidoqueen: Supporting Nidoking/Damaged based on Nidokings
- Slaking: Big Damage but not often attacking multiple times in a row
- Houndoom: More damage if less pokemon on the field
- Alakazam: Damage manipulation

The list goes on and on. Its fun to keep up with the themes and putting new tricks to Pokemon while they're at it. Just look at the more recent Mews, they often deal with adapting to the opposition/other pokes, but do so in different ways.

Yeah, more often than not you'll see a pokemon doing the same thing a few times. Look at the new Arceus set Gengar and the Fossil Gengar.

In fact, take a look at this beauty:

Familiar? Sure, the power became an attack, but it's almost the same thing.

I think thats the role of ALL fire types, look at them, very few don't discard energies to attack
