So how do you guys know your current card/game shop?

A good place to start is to find the closest place where a premier event is being held (such as Battle Roads, etc.) from go-pokemon.com

If that's way too far away, then I would turn to either google or simply driving around, looking.

Another thing to do is to start your own league, but I'm not exactly sure what that requires. I think the official site has more info on that.

So what exactly are you trying to do then? It's pretty unlikely any place that doesn't have a league would run tournaments. If you're looking find a comic book shop that would be interested in hosting a league, just search the comic book stores around your area on Google Maps. If you find any, get in contact with the owner and see if they'd be interested in starting a league. If you absolutely can't find a comic book store, you may be out of luck, as I'm assuming you don't know anyone 18+ who could start a league at a library or something.

Well, if you don't have transportation, I guess a league is out of question. It is rare that you will find a game store that sells pokemon cards, but doesn't have league. The closest you might get are Toy stores, and Hobby stores. Other than that, you're stuck with supermarket packs.

That is what is lame about my town. It is filled with people but you have to go to another city to buy stuff other than food. Like Target and Walmart both are super centers. But I was thinking of going to a hobby store with a league in a city 26 miles away a month. The only toy stores are Toys R Us and that is in the nearest city.

But if I was looking on Google maps. What would be good to search for to get those small businesses?

Go to toys-r-us.com, and go to store locator, and find your store adress. Then go to http://www.mapquest.com/, and get directions.

Do Toys R Us's host leagues? Plus all I find are blister packs and I have the worst luck ever. That is why I look into the codes of boxes.

Rarely. To find out if they do, visit the league locatoer which someone already gave you the link to. As for "luck of the pack", I've noticed the same thing. I once bought a box worth of packs at half price, and got 0 holos, and 0 X's. I'm not sure how third party packaging works, but the packs aren't fixed, as I have heard many reports of X's in blister/other 3rd-party packs.

No I mean I have the worst luck with any kind of pack and have to trade for cards. I mainly buy decks and mix types together. So I found two, both a little over 20 miles away but I found a tournament in a city next to mine.

Also to buy those packs that are in boxes you need to go to a card shop right?

Yes, if you want to pick and choose you have to go to a card shop. Otherwise people could steal them super easily.

When you said you found "two", did you mean leagues or comic book shops? Because if you meant the latter, going to the league 26 miles away is probably your best option. That's probably 35-40 minutes depending where you live, so if your parents don't like driving that far normally you can see if you can go once every month or something.

I found two leagues in card shops. In all the places in California, I have never seen a comic book shop. Now I just need to make money which won't happen for a while.

where in california do you live anyways? I run a league in cali out of a school... if you search and work for it and have a player base, you don't necessarily need a card shop to start a league.
