So, what exactly is this all about

Hey guys I've been collecting Pokemon cards for years, but I never really played the TCG,let alone a tournament. I'm not quite sure what you win, or what the point of it is. Or even where the tournaments are located? Are they in every state? Or just Hawaii? See I know nothing about it hehe.

Is Pokemon recognized as something very popular with people now adays? Or do some still think it is childish. I don't think it is at all, but a lot of people judge the name you know?

Anyway, I know I can look elsewhere to learn how* to play the game, and I found out the only the newest cards are allowed which is a shock to me. I guess my binder would have been unusable as it contained, Base, Jungle, fossil, team rocket, gym heroes, gym challenges, Neo Destiny and Neo Discovery.

I think Pokemon is the greatest concept! Maybe some day they will make it more realistic where you can actually throw a ball and a holographic creature comes out. Now that would be awesome.

The main non-Pokemon items that you win are scholarships. You can also win stuff like DSi from tournaments. Most of the prizes are packs or official merchandise.

Pokemon is more popular now than it was 5 years ago. However, it still does face some ridicule.

Awesome , thanks for the info.

Tournaments are located in all states (although i go to alot, living in a big pokemon state)

There are many types of tournaments such as:
Cities
State
Battle roads
Nationals
Worlds
Prereleases

(I have a feeling you mentioned Hawaii because worlds was there some time recently)

Pokebeach has and official Tier thread, incase you need to find out what decks are being played.

The deck garage could be a nice place to learn, aswell as the Card Combos section.

The current Modified format is DP-on, so you can only use cards from Diamond and Pearl in

I personally recommend jumping into the game, it's really fun.

Any other questions? then you can PM me.

You can win yourself anywhere from a Trophy Card and some packs to a scholarship and a trip to Worlds (Florida or Cali normally).

It is viewed as rather childish sadly, but you'll find that most people will accept it, and the people that you find playing the game range as far as you can imagine. In fact one of the star linebackers on my school's football team was into the game himself.

This happens a lot to old school collectors who come back to the game. The new cards are fun and getting to know/play with them is half the fun.

There are also things such as leagues, it's like free-battling people without the whole disqualification thing, it's great practice, has some pretty nice prizes like special booster packs, as well as actual Pokemon Badges. Not to mention, if you're into the oldies, Leagues are perfect for you since they go by unlimited format.

And just to let you know unlimited states that any card can be used even from the first series..so your old fossils and such will work fine there..Welcome to pokebeach and pokemon TCG

The cards may be unusable for most tournaments, but a lot of people will still trade for old cards. For instance, I really looking for a Shining Raichu from Neo Revelation. A lot of collectors will trade big for stuff from that era because the game wasn't as popular then, so there aren't as many cards floating around.
