Is it illegal to check out your opponent's discard pile{To avoid infernape lv.x''s flare up for example} and are you allowed to shuffle your deck under the table or backwards to avoid your opponent to get a short glimpse of what you're having?

This questions may sound minor but I'm just making sure.

Not sure about the second question but I can answer the 1st question. It's not illegal to check your opponent's discard pile because for example, you want to use Gardevoir SW's Telepass, you would want to check your opponent's discard pile to see which Supporter you want to Telepass, right?? So, I think it's not illegal to check your opponent's discard pile...

The number of cards and the contents of all players' discard piles is public information. Any player in the game can look through any discard pile at any time. (Of course, if you're doing this a lot during a tournament, it might be viewed as stalling.)

You can't take your cards under the table. All cards must remain in clear sight of all players at all times. Beyond that, I'd say any shuffle that sufficiently randomizes the deck is acceptable. (Personally, when I riffle shuffle I keep the deck halves flat on the table, so the bottom cards are not visible to anyone, including myself -- techniques I learned when I trained to be a casino dealer :) Of course, it can be hard to do on a non-padded table.)

To add Chairman Kaga's response to the second question, I read up on official POP tourney rules today and it actually says you can't put your hands under the table at all, cards in your hand or not.

Question #1: No it is not illegal for you to check out your opponents discard pile, nor is it illegal for your opponent to check your discard pile. Just make sure that you (or your opponent) ask to check first.:p

Question #2: No you are not allowed to shuffle your deck under the table because it is considered a form of cheating. And why would you shuffle backwards when your hand is covering the bottom card anyway?

Hope this helped. :)

^I wouldn't want to shuffle it with the deck facing me anyways because my opponent would accuse me of seeing my deck on purpose. But then again, I could ask him to cut my deck. And then that won't be a problem.

Anyways, what's riffle shuffling and what other kinds of shuffle is legal?

Just don't look at your deck...you could look at the field or something.
