Okay...

So just wondering, we are still early in this new BW+ Format, but is this the first format since Pre-Neo that we have been without special metal or dark energy cards?

Yes, it is. Special Dark and Metal have remained in the format ever since their original release, until the BLW-on rotation.

Wow. You're right. I just realized this and I'm kind of sad. They've always been a part of the game and now they're up and gone. I'm sure they'll be reprinted in future sets.

I don't think they'll get reprinted, and for the same reason they weren't in Dark Explorers. My guess is that the Pokemon Company wants to remove the entire mechanic from the game. Sometimes issues over them came up in tournaments and they looked too much like their corresponding Basic Energy when attached in certain ways. Dark Claw sort of makes up for Sp. Dark; and either they will make something that favors Metal, or Eviolite covers that. The Plasma era is coming soon (Like SP and Holon imo) and I doubt they'll reprint the Special Dark and Metal Energies then, if they plan on reprinting them at all.

I think Special Metal and Dark will be reprinted eventually but Not for a while. How is Eviolite exlusive to Metal Pokèmon again? It doesn't even help Klinklang or other evolved Metal type Pokèmon.

Like grantm1999 said, i think that might be why. I found it very confusing. At the most, they might reprint it with say...a plus sign next to the dark/metal energy sign.

When they were originally printed, the types had just been introduced to the game and there were hardly any Pokémon of those types. So they were "gimmicks"; they only worked for a few Pokémon, not enough to really classify it as a benefit for a type. Then we got 3rd and 4th generation, which both introduced a bunch of new Dark and Metal Pokémon, Special Energy started to play a bigger role in the game as did punishment for using Special Energy, and 4th generation also introduced basic Dark and Metal Energy. The Special Energy lost their gimmicky-ness and created a lot of complicated design problems. Most Dark and Metal Pokémon in 4th generation had to be naturally underpowered to make up for the fact that the Special Energy gave them an advantage over other types. If they're not reprinted, that's probably why.

I mean that Eviolite is like Special Metal as Dark Claw is like Dark Claw. Just because it is a defensive tool. It obviously doesn't favor Metal types.

Dark Explorers read as: Dark Rush (the Japanese set)

It is odd that there isn't Special Dark and Metal. but it is probably because they don't want us only running Registeel EX and Darkrai EX, as they would be so broken it's not funny. Especially with Dark Types, they would now be able to get an extra 60 damage (4 SP Dark, 1 Dark Claw), which is just ridiculous, and then there is Zoroark (BW, BW-P) that can search for ANY card, making this highly possible.
Also, on the fact that Plasma Gale is coming out, there could be the re-introduction of the two SP energy, as done by Platinum: Rising Rivals, which had four different kinds of special energy in it.
