BW/BW2 Starter Names

I got to say, I'm not really happy about the names. Snivy is a good name but I would name one Smugleaf if I get one. Tepig is a pretty obivous name....
Oshawott is great too...at least it's not OshaWOTTER. XD (cuz' I'm chosing him so....yeah..) What do you think? Should they at least put more effort in the names?
 
It is not the amount of effort that determines greatness- it is if the thing is actually great.
I don't really care about the starter's names themselves, as their final evolution's names are fine for me- Serperior, Emboar and Sammurot.
 
I actually like the names, they fit the starters really well, like charmander did.
 
I can say I honestly love them very much. Serperior is super awesome, Emboar <3 and Samurott. All of them are really good, don't have any complains!
But some other names are just... Ugh... Imagination? :|
 
Now that all of the Gen 5 Pokemon names are out in English (supposedly...), I think the starters were lucky to get such names compared to some of these names... Like, Golurk... It's a 9 feet tall and it weighs almost 730lbs. I think it would be spotted the minute it's in somebody's peripheral vision, don't ya think?

What is that even supposed to mean? What do you think they did to come up with those names... throw a bunch of random words together and deemed them names? Obviously not... these names rock. They all have very good meanings and look good. I am more than happy with them.

Whether or not you're addressing myself or Niko, it isn't really a theory, just an educated assumption.
Personally, Golurk is one of my favorite. ;)
 
Golurk is one of my favorite Gen 5 Pokemon too. Guess I'll just have to nickname it.
 
I actually like the name "Tepig" but I would rather the evo's to get warmer and warmer with each evolution, like Piglow, (glow is a bit warmer then tepid) then something hotter than glow, because I can't think of anything.

I agree. I really like that evolution chain.
Although I wouldn't mind a fire starter that DIDN'T turn into a fire/fighting combo...
 
Hmm.... People seem to be talking about name disappointments in general instead of just starters. Somebody should change the name of the thread.
 
If this thread is going to discuss name disappointments then this thread should be left open. We've had enough complaining as it is.
 
^Not me, I don't particularly care about the typing of Emboar in comparison to other regions. I mean, Unova IS the "reboot" of the series. We shouldn't care about the past two generations. Also, I think Emboar>Blaziken>Infernape.
 
^ Well even though its a reboot, its still getting old, they have to think about marketing, and the little things that make it perfect

and i know the games themselves are already marketable enough but this would provide less hate.
