Ruling Starting the game

Is you start the game and draw Clefairy Doll and lets say, 6 energy, do you have to put Clefairy Doll down as your active Pokemon to start the game?
Also, if you have an active Pokemon at the beginning of the game, can you put Clefairy Doll on your bench facedown before the game starts? thanks =)

Yes and yes again. Clefairy Doll can be played as a Pokemon from your opening hand, just like a Fossil.
