Strange Souvenir in Sun/Moon

So I have a few questions about the Strange Souvenir".

1) Will it have a purpose in SM?

Because we can't transfer items through the pokebank, the "Strange Souvenir" might just have been a tease for things to come.

I doubt this, but it's possible I suppose. Would they really create a weird little "mission" in the game for use to get the item, just for it to be a hint? On the other hand, they have never teased something this big about a coming generation in a game that I know of.

2) Will be be able to trade from gen 6 games to SM?

So if the "Strange Souvenir" does have a role in SM, we may be able to trade from XY?ORAS. Similar t how we could trade from RB(G)Y-GSC.

Would love to hear all of your folks thoughts. Let's get speculating!

I am sure it will be able to be transfered to SM in some way. My theory is that a collector of some sort will want it and will trade something unique for it.

Has it been confirmed that we won't be able to trade between SM and XYORAS? I would assume that nintendo would place some application when transferring from gen 1 to gen 2 type of feature.

It's been confirmed on the official site that we'll be able to bring Pokemon from XY/ORAS to S/M, and it looks like it's done through the Pokemon Bank.
