Suggestions About Playing the Pokemon TCG Competitively?

So, I haven't played the Pokemon TCG in ages, but now the basic rules from playing the Game Boy version of the TCG lol. Obviously, alot has changed since I last played about 10 years ago, but seeing my younger brothers' eagerness to start playing has made me want to join in on the fun.

Basically, what do we do to start playing competitively? I've checked TPCi's website and saw something about joining local leagues. Do we just show up and start playing, or is there some sort of sign-up process? Does winning enough matches at your local league qualify you for Nats and Worlds? Or are local leagues more recreational, and you have to attend some other tournament(s) in order to qualify for Nats/Worlds?

Also, what's the best/cheapest way to get good cards for your deck? Would buying a booster box or booster case be good for this?

Thanks in advance :)

Leagues are really a lot more casual than tournaments. It's mostly just casual play where you can earn some cards and play with friends. Tournaments are generally where a lot of people earn enough championship points for Worlds (Cities, States, Regionals, etc). There are small tournaments at leagues like League Challenges, but you won't be able to get enough points from just those.

If you don't have a Play Pokemon ID, you'll probably sign up for one at the League but generally it's not too intensive. You can pretty much just show up and play for the most part.

dmaster out.

Ok, so would we better off just buying singles to build our decks, or...?? Thanks!

Singles are good for building you deck. It is normally cheaper in the long run. It really does depend on the deck. I think Pyroar is the most inexpensive deck to build right now.

Pyroars 2-5$ on ebay(8-20 a playset)
Blacksmith 1-4 dollars on ebay(4-16 dollars a playset)
Professor Juniper 1-3 dollars on ebay(This card is reprinted a lot and also goes by the name Professor Sycamore. You can buy a full playset for like 2-4 dollars in one ebay auction or Buy)
Flaming Torch(4 for a 2 dollars)

You can get a Pyroar box with 3 packs 1 Pyroar, 1 Fiery Torch, and 1 Blacksmith.

Also at my league kids love rares, holos, and reverse holos. I normally take the trainers or commons they don't want that I need. Maybe if you get something in those 3 packs you will cut the cost, or trade it to some kids or other people there.

I buy singles when I'm just trying to get the last several cards I need for a deck. Boxes are for when new sets come out. Plus, you don't have to qualify for anything but Worlds.
