Survey On Your Beliefs About the Current Metagame

(Apologies for cross-posts.)

Hi, guys. I'm not a competitive player, but a pokedad with a son just sticking his toe into juniors.

In real life, I am a university professor and I teach statistics and game theory among other things. I can't help myself but try to apply these things to understand the game a bit better.

If you're interested, help me out and fill out the survey in the link below. It asks you to rate how often you would expect each deck to win in matchups among ten decks (in the current format heading into States).

If there are enough responses and the results are interesting, I'll circulate a summary. There aren't any sensitive questions and I won't have any way of knowing who you are individually, unless you tell me, but all individual responses will be kept completely confidential. Feel free to pass the link on to other players.

Thanks for any help, and good luck in States!

How do you define what Darkrai/Good Stuff looks like? Darkrai/Lasers and Darkrai/Hammers are fine because it narrows the focus down, but "good stuff" is rather vague...the only other thing I can think of would be Hydreigon.

But that would be funny because it's not really "good stuff" haha (jk maybe).

think he meant things like Darkrai/Landorus, Darkrai/Mewtwo, Darkrai/Terrakion, Darkrai/Victini, etc.

^Not necessarily true.

The best example that keeps popping into my head is Worlds '11 and US Nationals '12.
The Truth and Magneboar were both not top tier decks and then placed 1st and 2nd. And Klinklang was not top tier when it won Nationals (though admittedly maybe should've gotten 2nd, but that doesn't diminish the point). Not to mention the countless Tier 3 and rogue decks that win local events.

Truth and Magneboar aren't in this format. Since you know, the thread starter's topic is focused on this format?

Don't tell me that it doesn't apply in this format. Use EXs or you die.

The Truth was definitely a tier 1 deck, its just that nobody knew about it. Rogue=/=bad, Rogue=rougeunplayed. It was even better because it was a superb meta call. Magneboar was also a tier 2 at worst deck and another good meta call.

I think the survey matter is a bit too broad. Its hard to lump all Lugia EX variants or all Terrakion EX variants into one and determine matchups for all of them as one deck (especially because Terrakion EX is never really seen and Lugia EX is usually just a tech, unless you mean Lugia rush).

That's not the best way to do that then. Technically you could tech those Pokemon into either Hammer or the Laser version and it would function basically the same (also goes toward the point Dark Void made that obviously the decks are pretty general and free form). It's honestly best to assume no techs in either deck for something like that because that skews results greatly.

I don't think Lugia EX should be in the survey (I mentioned this in the additional comments section.) It isn't really a part of the metagame right now.

I was going to put that but I forgot to. It will be next format's gem (maybe. I have tested yet.)
