Okay for starters the anime finally began in the U.S. and I think Its a cool anime, its just like .Hack except the users cannot logout. Same things: if you die in the game you die in real life. So far only the first episode is aired and its really exciting. Only 10,000 gamers in the world, they must complete the game to get out, which is to beat the boss on floor 100, 2 months have passed and 2000 gamers are dead and floor 1 is still not complete....

Discuss about the anime, be courteous to others and be respectful, if someone else made a thread like this please delete this one or move it to the right section of the forums.....Thank You :p

RE: Sword Art Online Discussions!!!

The first half of the series was amazing. I'm a bit skeptical to continue with the second half for reasons I will avoid saying because of spoilers.

It's a great premise, great characters, great development. I wish it had been a bit longer and gave a bit more development to a few of the characters that pop up from time to time, but it is what it is.

I am, however, very psyched for the release of the Sword Art Online MMO they're supposedly releasing. I've been needing a new MMO and the entire idea of losing your character after death is something that sounds quite amusing.

Yeah, I heard about that MMO also but didnt know about that last part that does seem amusing :) I am kinda bored with the current MMO and currently waiting for the episodes to release in the U.S so it time a ticking, so far this is going to be great it seems more adult like to the version of .Hack

RE: Sword Art Online Discussions!!!

As I said, the first half was amazing. I can't judge the second half as I can't bring myself to actually watch it. But it pulls at the heart strings constantly.

RE: Sword Art Online Discussions!!!

Guess I should chime in considering this is literally one of the only anime I have ever watched.

I actually really enjoyed the show, but I felt like it had a lot of issues with it. My main gripe is that it felt too short; the sheer amount of content that was present in the SAO world was HUGE...and that they pretty much stuff this awesome, open world into like, 14 episodes .-. I almost feel like the anime was rushed; they could have made upwards of 200 episodes before they covered a majority of what goes on in the world. It made everything feel really rushed and I didn't get to see as much of the world as I would have liked. The second half's pace was much better, but I didn't like the setting as much, which is kind of the main selling point of the anime.

I really did have fun watching it though. I generally describe it as very poorly made but very fun to watch (and in the end, what matters is if I enjoyed it, which I really did). I would honestly reccomend it to anyone who likes action and adventure, but not to think too much while watching it.

RE: Sword Art Online Discussions!!!

Season two is the thing that "ruined" SAO for me. It never lived up to the expectations season one set, plus the ending was rushed and the founding of The World Seed was not as explained as it was in the light novels. The fact it even ends after Asuna is saved is also lame as hell. The anime should have at least continued by using the Gun Gale Online arc (Phantom Bullet) in the novels as a basis for a season three; I felt Gun Gale was vastly different from the first two MMORPGs, thus giving the arc a more fresher feel. Gun Gale also had the fear of death return, which Alfheim Online completely lacked.

I haven't really heard much about a season 3, but hopefully the anime is picked up again. Sinon is such a great character. :<

RE: Sword Art Online Discussions!!!

Season 1 was pretty great, and I actually really enjoyed Season 2. Almost as equally as the first season. Though, I missed the whole die in the game, you die in real life thing.

Heh, I guess this show really is like .hack//SIGN, then, since this is almost exactly how I felt when watching that. I felt the show had a really good world and premise, but it wasn't explored nearly enough. I did still enjoy watching it, but it could have been so much more.

This show is going by fast, first episode lvl 1 then next thing you know on the 4th episode he Is lvl. 78.

Spoilers

So this is getting good so far, it makes you kinda of sad about the guild member of the Black cats and the player commiting suicide :( on of the saddest moments in an anime. I also saw the episode with the player killers where they kill people and get there stuff, I hated that red haired woman..... but so far this getting great and all the newest people that he meets are mostly girls, why is that?

I edited your post to have your "spoilers" section in spoiler tags *[mod]Drohn[/mod]

Never watched SAO until it appeared on Toonami. The concept seems all right, but I don't like how the plot has played out so far, there's too much skipping around and not much plot in the first few episodes.

This happens so often in anime that I swear the ratio of cute girls to guys is like 4:1.

I'm really hesitant to watch SAO because of what I've heard about it, namely little character depth and development, the protagonist being a massive Mary Sue, some really disappointing asspull answer if any to why all this happened in the first place or something like that, rushing the world building, and a terrible second season where one main character gets relegated to the damsel in distress role instead of doing anything and the lack of death being a consequence that makes the drama a joke and kind of pointless.

Counting the two seasons as separate animes, the first season is probably among the worst 3 I've ever watched. The idea was nice and the action scenes weren't bad but it seemed like there was at least one plot hole every episode. The second season was a lot better as far as that went, with only a few, a better realization of the plot, and the anime was properly stretched out-the fact that it was 10 episodes for less than a week in their world as opposed to 15 episodes for a much larger duration of time (amount withheld because very minor spoiler) in the first season just shows that they skipped around a lot in the first season and mainly showed us things that weren't related to the plot in any way.

I LOVE this anime.
I'd probably be a red player though :p

It was SUPPOSED to be like that.
If you've ever played an MMO, just because you're not clearing floors doesn't mean that other people aren't trying to beat the game.

The side plots I have no problem with; I do have a problem with the fact that they almost never go into the main plot. The entire premise of the show set it up to be some grand quest to clear all 100 floors, and in reality it ended up being the main characters screwing around doing random other stuff within the game, with maybe a couple major plot moments tossed in along the way to keep the story going. Don't get me wrong, I still thoroughly enjoyed the anime, it just had a lot of issues and I feel like it could have been so much better.

I really enjoy this anime. It was really intinse for me. Season one was definitely the best one out of the two, but season two really finished it off. Truly it is an amazing anime! I recommend to everyone.
