Ruling Tangrowth (Arceus) question

Another question with my grass deck. This time with my Tangrowth's (Arceus) "Leaf Guard" attack. The effect of the attack says "During your opponents next turn, any damage done to Tangrowth by attacks is reduced by 20 (after applying weakness and resistance)". My opponent I used it against claimed that if he switched his active, Leaf Guard's effect would go away, claiming its like switching to get rid of Smokescreen's effect. I say Smokescreen affects his active and thats why switching gets rid of it, but Leaf Guard affects my active so him switching his active doesn't effect an effect on my active. But, the league leader took my opponents side (a different league then my last question but also not a professor).

So my question is does my Tangrowth's "Leaf Guard" effect remain if my opponent switches his/her active?

Yes because the effect of Leaf Guard is on your Pokemon, not your opponent's.~Mark
