Hello again folks! It's me, that guy whose in a "team" called "White Tiger". I have yet another Cities Report so bare with me! "Surprisingly", I played a different deck than I did last month (Dec. 19). This report tells the amazing adventures that took place January 8th, 2011 in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Like oh so many of us do, my partner and I stayed up all night the night before trying to perfect our decklists, play tests until we think we can best Con Lee, and sort our stock for trading. I live in Tahlequah, OK so we needed to leave fairly early to arrive in Bentonville, AR by 11am. Sooo we stayed up til about 5am and woke up at about 8am to shower and get ready. Now, registration starts at 11am, but we decided we'd leave at about 9:30am cause TomTom said it'd take an hour an a half to get there. I am somewhat familiar with the Bentonville area though cause my mom use to work there. We get ready early and decided to hit the road at like, 9:13 to get an early start - leaving us plenty of time to find the place. Well, TomTom is a liar and a thief becuase it literally took us about 62 minutes to arrive at our destination which puts us at 10:15am. So we walk in to make sure it's the right place and, what's this!? Registration started 15 minutes ago! Well lucky for us, we had already written our deck lists the night before and with that, we decided to head across the street to BurgerKing and get some Buck Doubles for breakfast. As we sat in the parking lot of the computer store housing the tourny, we talked about how there were hardly any people here today. We commented on how it wasn't nearly as crowded as our home Cities was (Tulsa, OK). My partner said something about how he was glad our friends from Tulsa weren't here because now maybe we'd have a chance. (Our friends from Tulsa are Chris, Amy, Joel, Daniel. I played Chris at Cities, its in my old report) I jokingly laughed and said, "Watch, Chris and them will show up last minute and win everything." As I said this, I looked at my partner who was sitting in my passenger seat of my awesome minivan and out of the window I saw Chris, Amy, Joel, and Daniel all emerge from the same vehicle. I busted up laughing and my partner had no idea why. He then looked out his window and saw what I had and instantly busted up in laughter as well. (He also may or may not have said some profound words that are not suitable for viewers under the age of 89). We then laughed and got out of the car to greet them. Shortly after, the rest of the Tulsa crew showed up and the whole gang was there. Awesome. It was go time.
Round 1! Vs. Brit (LuxChomp)
So Brit, (who is actually a male) and I sat down at the table and exchanged handshakes and whathaveyou, and we began to shuffle. I was pretty nervous cause I had no idea what I may be up against. As stated earlier, I literally had built my deck from scratch the previous night. But one thing I did not mention, was how that right before bed, and without playtesting, and unknown by my partner, I literrally changed a third of my deck out and just wrote my decklist. Guess I was gonna have to trust in the heart of the cards. So we shuffle and junk and we both mulligan. Awesome. We eventually get set up and begin. I started off with Dialga G and he started with PromoCroak and an Unown Q I do believe. I still didn't know what he was playing, but from the mulligans earlier, I knew he was playing SP as well. The game started picking up, I got set up pretty fast, and starting taking the lead early on. It was almost a mirror match seeing as how I was playing a DialgaChomp variant. And by mirror match, I mean our Dialga's faced off most of the time. I would Dragon Rush for a KO here and there, and I would Second Strike for a few more. He did at one point Defen lock me, which sucked balls. But I stil had the game. I was leading in prizes the whole game by at least 2. But then the heart of the cards had a cardiac arrest and left me high and dry. He managed to KO my DGX and it was all over from there. Later in the game I made the mistake of wasting a search looking for my DGX which was in the discard pile. Bah. He then caught up in prizes with me. I think I took one more prize, but he eventually surpassed me and won. It was a great game. GG
0-1.
Round 2! Vs. Tim (VileGar#1)
After my name was called and I learned who I was playing, a friend of mine informed me that I would be going up against VileGar. So I kind of knew what to expect. The game started and I had a Dialga and he started with an Oddish and an Unown Q. I won't really go into detail here because there wasn't a whole lot of exciting stuff happening. I sniped his Oddish, his Haunter, a Gastly, an Uxie or two, and it seemed like smooth sailing. He did manage to get his Feinting Spell Gengar out however and that took a little bit to get rid of. At this point in the game I'm winning 2-6 prizes. He hadn't KO'd anything yet. I knocked out his Gengar and he landed a heads for the KO on my Dialga. Dadgumit, he took a prize. I sniped something person for the win. Oh yeah, he also had a Blaziken FB in his deck, but I KO'd it before it had a chance to do anything important. GG though.
1-1.
Round 3! Vs. Chris (VileGar#2)
This guy seemed pretty cool, we chit chatted about shtuff and just enjoyed our time together. Then the game started, I discovered he was playing VileGar, and I raged. This would be my second time ever playing against VileGar, and according to my past, I have a 100% win ratio. Not bad eh? I mulligan'd a couple times which didn't help, but once the game started I got set up pretty fast. Just like last time, I was leading the game early on. The prize count was like, 3-5 with me ahead. I was curious, however, as to what he was doing with the slowpoke in his deck. I assumed it was for Slowking Prime, which is a poor man's Uxie X. But, I had already KO'd his Uxie X, so I didn't know what it was for. Oooooooh, it's for the Second Sight Slowking? The one where my opponent can make sure I draw nothing but trainers? Allowing his Poltergeisting Gengar to Stolen me for 210 damage because after he Level Down'd my DGX, his Vileplume locked me? That Slowking? Yeah. He came back and won. It sucked. But like a person, I didn't have any Power Spray in my deck. If I had, I honestly would have won IMO. Overall, GG. I'd play him again. He was good.
1-2.
Round 4! Vs. Paul (VileGar#3)
Son of a Torkoal. Another dadgum VileGar. Three right in a roll. We sat down, set up, I found out what he was playing, told him he was number three, and that he had a 50/50 chance of beating me. We lol'd a little, and began. Surprisingly, all three VileGars that I played had very different builds and all but one of them provided me with a good game. Paul trainer locked me with a Spiritomb and would Darkness Grace his way to a Gengar. But. This damaged Spiritomb enough to where that, once he retreated it for Gengar, I could KO it with a Flash Bite. Surprisingly, I killed two Spiritombs this way. Yay for easy prizes. I did manage to snipe one of his Haunters, which put a kink in his think for a bit. But, the Gods of Chance hate me, cause once I KO'd his Feinting Spell Gengar, he Feinted all over my DG and knocked it out too. And since there was no damage from an attack OH GOOD MY RESCUE ENERGY DID ME ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD. That sucked. I got another DGX built up and had it out takin' prizes and bein' cool and what not, and, as with all of my other games, I was winning for the majority of the game. But lo' and behold, he went Lvl X Gengar and Leveled me down. Again, the lack of power spray is what I'm blaming this loss on. It was a very close game, but once my DGX was gone, so was the game. He won easily after that. Again, I think I could have had him if I had Power Spray. But again, Paul was an awesome guy and I gladly bow to his playing. Later in the day, I gave him a rev holo Haunter he was needing just cause he was pretty chill. GG Paul.
1-3.
Round 5! Vs. Logan (MewPerior)
Not much here. I've met Logan before, he's a pretty cool kid. But, when he started off with nothing but a Skitty, I donked him Turn 2 with a Garchomp.
Pretty uninteresting way to end the day, but it was still great. We played another game for funsies, and I won that too. GG Logan.
2-3.
And this concludes the tourny. They did top 4 cuts, and I was somewhere at the bottom. Well, not the very bottom. The guy playing Arceus went 0-5. But theres a funny story behind that and he's a pretty legit guy. I mean, he did leave there with 18 Promo Poliwags. Also, it is worth noting that out of the top four places, two of them were Oklahomans. 4th place was taken by Micheal (I think that's his name), and my friend Daniel P. took 2nd. An Arkansas native won 1st. Congrats to all, and to all a good game.
Props:
Great games.
Learned a lot.
Made some excellent trades.
Ripped a few cards for fun.
Making new friends, and hanging with the old.
Slops:
Not winning any door prizes other than a booster.
Not having Power Spray.
Not getting the Darkrai/Creselia LGND I wanted.
Not getting my Pokemon Collector back from that little kid who I let borrow it.
I'm not gonna post my decklist this time, sorry mates.
See you guys at States!
