Team White Tiger presents:
Tulsa Cities Tournament Report
(We did pretty awful, we call it having fun)
Thanks for reading this! Screamrawr's report is first, then AdrianSkyline's.
ScreamRawr with Kabutops
So this is me, being half of Team White Tiger, (Many inside jokes is how we got the name fyi) and this is my amazing Cities report. Better late than never, right? Anywho, this particular report tells about the amazing adventures that took place December 19, 2010 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The event was to consist of 4 swiss rounds and then top 8 cut. So here's my report! Also, I'll post my deck list at the end of the report with AdrianSkyline's.
Round 1! Vs. John Weston (Healix)
So first off I get paired up with this fine chap named John Weston. As we're shuffling we introduce ourselves and I learn that he is the younger brother of Chris Beaty, a good friend and great Pokemon player in our league. So I thought, oh awesome. I'm gonna get pwn'd. Well, he also made the mistake of telling me that he hasn't played in several years. So my mindset quickly changed to, "Sweet. An easy win." And it was so. When the match began and he started with a couple Onyx, I instantly became greatful that I decided against playing my own Steelix deck. Well, I'm not gonna lie, I had a great start this game. I got Donphan out early and it allowed me to do some hefty damage to his Steelix. The only part that made me rage is how often he would switch them out, and then use Seeker to heal them. Or when he dropped a Blissey Prime to heal another time. I did enough damage to kill about 5 Steelix Primes. I was raging. When time was called, we both had only taken one prize. I was kinda surprised that I had allowed him to last this long. But then again, his brother did build his deck, and he's number two in the state. The tourny was Turn 3 rules, so after time was called the count down began. I finally managed to start taking prizes though. Both Steelix, his Blissey, and his Crobat G. He only managed to take one more prize because he had poisoned my Donphan early game. It was about time I won. GG though.
1-0
Round 2! Vs. Yajirobe (Gyarados)
Oh goody. Gyarados. Half of the people at Cities were playing Gyarados. Aparently, it's been really popular this season. Idk why though. Any rate, this dood introduces himself as Yajirobe. Clames he weilds a sword and hangs around a tower. I lol'd and told him that I refused to learn his real name now. This match was quick. I had a horrible start, and he Sablestarted. I couldn't get anything out, and it sucked. I was humiliated by the fact that he was able to Overconfident for about 3 KOs. He took out a few fossils and my Dodrio. By the time I was finally able to get out my Donphan and Kabutops, I realized that Gyarados was not only super effective against my Donphan, but he was resistant to fighting. How I missed that, I have no idea. But needless to say he won that round. GG Yajirobe.
1-1
Round 3! Vs. Chris Beaty (LuxChomp)
When I saw the pairings I couldn't believe it. I had play against Chris? He was 2-0 and I was 1-1. Chris Beaty is John Weston's older brother, and at one point he was #1 in Oklahoma. I think he is currently #2, I could be wrong though. I just knew I was gonna lose. Chris could have been playing a Torkoal deck and still have stomped me into the ground. Well, when we sat down we laughed and joked and then he said, "So I heard you beat my little brother." Then we both busted out laughing. And then he thuroughly beat me into the ground. I had a horrible start, he was playing LuxChomp, and he's good at it. He only made one mistake which was trying to Dragon Rush my Old Amber on the bench, (which recieved no damage) and he lost a DCE for nothing. But I drew no prizes, and he won. GG Chris.
1-2.
Round 4! Vs. Aaron [Didn't catch his last name] (Machamp)
So this last guy was playing Machamp, which is what my teammate was playing. Given, their decks were different, but I had play tested against Machamp at least. We both had pretty bad starts. My lone Phanpers against his Unown Q. It was a hilariously sad start when I learned that I couldn't donk him. I got my Donphan out as well as my Aerodactyl and a Kabutops so I thought I had the game in the bag, and I did early on. He then drew into his Machamp and almost turned the tables. I was having some bad luck with the top deck gods and he managed to take 4 prizes. The prize count was then 5-2, with him way in the lead. I was almost angered that I let my self get beat so badly by this noob who didn't know how to build a deck properly. I guess I was just confused at the fact that he put a TR Nidoqueen in his deck, as well as a TR Nidoking. Why? I don't understand, just, why? Well, I guess he learned his leson when I came back and took 4 prizes, leaving us now at 1-1 prizes. And all he had left was his horrible Nidoqueen. Thanks to my Expert Belted Kabutops, I won the game at last. But I guess that's how we all learn what plays well, by getting owned while wasting deck space on terrible cards.
GG Aaron.
2-2.
And this concludes my part of this report. They did top 8 cuts, and I was tied for 10th. Oh well. Better luck next time.
AdrianSkyline with Machamp/Donphan
I was so stoked for my first event of this season, and I couldn't wait to get started. I was super tired this day, with about an hour of sleep before registration. I expected that SP was still going to be hot, so I decided I would play Machamp. Anyway, here's how my 4 round day went.
First round against Matt Hicks. (Magnezone/Magnezone Prime)
I started with a lone machop, and he started with a Magnemite and a Lucario GL. I tried to get my side of the field set up, getting out my Dodrio so I could retreat, and get a Sableye out as my active. I couldnt Impersonate on my first turn, and I couldn't have impersonated the collector anyway, because my only one was in my hand. In his own starter switcheroo, Matt got a Spiritomb into the active position, and began using darkness grace to evolve his magnemite. He quickly spun his bench into action, using his Magnezone prime's power as well as Magnetic Search to get his stuff going pretty quick. I was able to get out a Donphan, and heavy impacted through one of his Spiritombs. When I searched for something, he judged. When I killed something, it didn't matter, he had another waiting. He eventually began to Lost Burn for the kills on my stuff. He took out my Donphan, then a Machamp. I got out Machamp prime, but on the turn I promoted it, Time was called. We were the last game still going on.
It was turn three rules, meaning I was player zero, then he was one, then I was two, and the he was three. At the end of that, The judge would decide the winner. I considered what I was going to do for some time, then the judge told me to make a move. We both had only two prizes left. I attached a fighting energy to Machamp and then did Champ Buster. Thanks to Matt's Expert Belt (that I hadn't noticed), He had ten HP left on his Magnezone. After I pulled that, He put a Lucario GL forward. I thought.. What? I then thought, well that was easy. He did some amazing thing I can't really remember, and then he switched for a Magenezone Prime, and Annhilated my Machamp by lost zoning three energy for 150 damge. All I had left was Dodrio, Staraptor FB X and A Machamp SF. I promoted it. He had one Fighting energy on him. I considered my options, one Machamp active, Dodrio and Saraptor FB X on the bench, and thought, screw it, I'm done. I dropped a DCE and used Hurricane Punch. I needed 3 heads to kill his Magnezone Prime. I rolled two. On the last turn, he Lost Burned for his last prize. GG.
0-1
Second Round against Charlie Puckett (T-Tar Prime)
Charlie was as hilarious as he was good at the game, and yet he didn't care how he did. He reminded me of Jared (Ex-White Tiger memeber) except without the shades. When I saw the first Larvitar I thought I had this, because a Fighting weakness gives me the edge against Tyranitar. Charlie thought so too.. but maybe that was all part of the psyche warfare.
I started with a god like hand, and had a Machamp up and going really fast. Everything he had going on, including two Larvitars was a basic, so I figured I just Take Out through his field. However, after killing his Azelf on the third turn, two T-Tars appeared, and he began absolutely raping me with Megaton Tail. I was about to switch to Donphan to mitigate the impending disaster, but he judged away my AMAZING hand. I knew from then on I was screwed. It didn't take long for him to kill my last pokemon, a Dodrio which he refered to as 'cute'. Smooth comments like that are probably why he won. GG Puckett.
0-2
Round Three against Matt Fleck (Gallade 4/SP Spread Deck)
This was pretty much in the bag from the moment he started with a lonely Crobat G. I started with a doduo and a Phanpy after a mulligan. I quickly got out my Machamp, but had trouble getting my Doduo out of the active position, choosing to wait until I could attack with something else before using an energy on retreating. By the time I got My Machamp up, I was able to do three takeouts on his all basic team and grab three prizes. He then used some clever damage manipulation with a Spiritomb I hadn't seen before and some Crobat G drops to send my Machamp to the discard. I have to admit that Matt's deck was clever. Utilizing blade storm and many other small methods to spread some pretty heavy damage around. None of it was enough to knock out my massive HP behemoths though. I kept thinking sometime soon Darkrai/Cresselia legend is going to pop up, but it never did. I didn't even bother to level up my Staraptor because I knew I had this. I got Donphan active after the knockout, and he promptly poisoned it. I got a rare candy, searched out a Machamp, and then put it into play. I couldn't heavy impact his crobat to death in one shot due to its resistance. After my Donphan expired, I promoted machamp, did a takeout, and he galactic switched. He had no more moves after that. GG Flex.
1-2
Round Four against Josh Hardisty (Gyarados)
Josh was a cool guy, but of course he was playing Gyarados, so we can't be friends. He started with a Regice and something else, but it doesn't really matter. He regimoved for two magikarps in the discard, and after a few turns, all my feeble attempts at hitting his Gyarados were being aced. He killed a Donphan and a Machamp, but everytime I managed to kill his Gyarados, it came back thanks to Rescue Energy. I got out Machamp prime, and used Brick Break to get rid of his rescue energy, but it didn't matter. He got out another one and owned me. GG.
1-3
Overall, I had a great time, and can't wait for Bartlesville AR cities, and the rest of the season!
