Well hey there everyone.

I've been wanting to play some DS Pokemon for a while, because it seems like all the Pokemon I do is on PO, which does get kinda repetitive after a while. Having already done a Nuzlocke, I wanted to try something different. I decided to do a solo. Teddiursa is one of my favorite Pokemon, so I wanted to use it. That's pretty much all the background info.

Rules
  • No evolutions. Teddiursa is a cool bro and doesn't need evolution to be a boss.
  • Only Teddiursa may be used. Teddiursa is a cool bro and teammates hog his limelight.
  • Game ends when Red is beaten. Teddiursa is macho enough that he can do it.
  • If Teddiursa dies, it gg.

So yeah, let's go.

Part 1: Teddiursa: The Bug Slayer (Route 30 - Violet City)
All the stuff that happens before Teddiursa's recruitment is unnecessary. I slay a boy with red hair, and his Cyndaquil too. A Pidgey is caught and traded for the Teddiursa, because otherwise Teddiursa comes too late. Early rising bears get the pot of honey first.

So yeah, now we're at Cherrygrove with our soon to be macho bear. But in order to get to the top, we gotta slay some bugs. But not the bees, because they make honey for Teddiursa. And Teddiursa <3s honey (Thanks Game Freak for giving it Honey Gather x_x). I'm standing on the edge of Route 30 typing this, and all Teddiursa can do is jump up and down with glee! It must be excited. So let's go.

Teddiursa is 2HKOing all the Pidgey, which is awesome. Its all the random encounters like giving to the bear. Eventually, the king of the Pidgey (a macho Lv.4 one) falls to a critical hit. Afterwards, a single Pidgey was never seen again. Now we start seeing Weedles. And more Weedles. And more Weedles. (I <3 Gen.2's diversity...) Poison Sting is the worst move ever, because it poisons and I'm out of antidote. I must rush to the Pokemon Center in quick haste to have my bear, lest we black out on Route 30 (which is totally cool guys).

After being hired by [member]Futachimaru[/member] as cheap labor, Teddiursa's quest continues. I get into my first trainer battle, and with Teddiursa at my side, I can't lose. After beating the top percentage of Rattata, my Teddiursa has become one of the top percentage Teddiursa. We then get to slay, destroy defeat the second youngster on Route 30. Teddiursa learns Fury Swipes after eliminating the second child's attempts at Pokemon Mastery (dude, get a Base Set Charizard first. You can't be a master without that card). Fury Swipes replaces False Swipes (Special Attacker Teddiursa gogogo).

The rest of Route 30 includes more Weedle slaying, as well as the occasionally Caterpie. Now that the puny insects are OHKOed by Teddiursa, Teddiursa reigns supreme over the the Bug-type (at least until Bugsy's Scyther) and he squashes them in a single stomp. The Weedle can't even hope to get in a Poison Sting anymore. We have our badgrass bear. Here I come game!

Route 31 is mostly the same as Route 30. I skip out on Dark Cave for now, because although Teddiursa's claws are the sharpest in the land, it cannot pierce the wall that is the base 100 Defense of a Geodude. I must have the Miracle skill today, because I didn't get a single encounter on Route 31 (My luck stat is capped at the beginning of the game). Lyra gives me the Vs. Recorder. With this, we can now capture, on tape, the fools who dare stand up to the might that is Teddiursa. Afterwards, Youngster Joey calls to tell me about his top percent Ratatta. Fortunately, I don't click the PokeGear button.

I'm now in Violet City, so this seems like a good place to pitch a tent and spend the night. Next time, Teddiursa and I explore the marvelous Bellsprout Tower, and take on Falker. Maybe we'll learn ThunderPunch by then. See ya later.

Part 2: Sprouting to the Sky (Violet City - Azalea Town)
The adventure continues with Spout Tower, a tower with really funky music. I do question the sanity of everyone here though, because what makes Bellsprout awesome enough that it is to be worshiped? Especially when Teddiursa is in the tower. With a swipe of its claws, the Bellsprouts don't stand a chance. The sages certainly aren't being helped by the fact that most are below level 5. First sage goes down in three turns. Easy attack EVs for Teddiursa as well. :p You know you suck as an NPC when the Wild Pokemon are higher level than yours. I guess it doesn't really make a difference if they're still OHKOed. The cool thing for sages must be having three level three Bellsprouts, because that's all these dudes have.

And at this point, I realized something:

Teddiursa ignored orders!

Yeah, kinda forgot about traded Pokemon not obeying you. Disobedience will be so much fun in the gym battles. You excited? Maybe we'll lose to a Bellsprout now. :O The top of the tower hosts a level six Bellsprout, making it the first Bellsprout that isn't OHKOed by Scratch :[. Teddiursa then decides to be cool and attack Bellsprout with Leer five times; apparently its deaf because it can't hear my screams :/. The second sage tells me that the Elder's TM can light even the darkest caves (We just got HM05: Glow Stick). In this battle, Teddiursa decides to become bread and is loafing around. In the battle against the final sage, Teddiursa decides to be as stupid as a Bellsprout that uses Growth three times and then uses Vine Whip, a physical attack. I do end up outsmarting Teddiursa's disobedience, and select moves I don't want it using, like Lick. Against the Hoothoot, Teddiursa decides to loaf around and gets put to sleep, although an antidote solves the problem. After two turns in a row of waking Teddiursa up, I do wonder what kind of performance enhancing drugs were fed to this Hoothoot. I wish I had this luck with Hypnosis on PO (hitting 4 out of five times ). After about 15 turns of waking up, ignoring orders, loafing around and turning away, Teddiursa finally decides to OHKO Hoothoot with a four hit Fury Swipes. About time you did something useful for me you stupid bear!. Its now a race to Falkner's gym, because maybe Teddiursa will obey me better with one badge.

Yay for nearly invisible floors that let me pass Falkner's underlings. Let's get this bad boy. The one thing I'm worried about is Sand Attack, because Falkner can potentially get lots of free turns off of me and my bread Teddiursa. Fortunately, it decides to be a good girl (like [member]Ms. Tea[/member]) and 3HKO Pidgey with Scratch, leaving the Pidgeotto, which was obviously found in Viridian Forest, left. Falkner's AI decides to be dumb when its obvious that the KO is coming and he doesn't select Roost. Its for this reason that I get the badge. Teddiursa only disobeyed me once (and it decided to use Lick -_- then). With this new badge, I don't have bread following me anymore so Huzzah!.

Elm decides to call and tell me about the egg I gave him. I get this egg because I'm the only one that can be trusted with such a valuable item (since when was Togepi good though?). Outside the PokeMart, I meet the first kimono girl, [member]Afro-G[/member]. He (crossdresser much?) comments on how much he thinks this egg is cool, like his hair. Now we set sail, I mean set shoe, for Azalea Town, the place with cool music.

I get given a Miracle Seed (for when Seed Bomb is taught, this NPC is a clear example of foreshadowing!) from this random dude who says that I'm going to fast. I really like the overhaul that Route 32 got; it makes it much more exciting and less flat (not like it could be helped in the GBC days). Faint Attack is learnt during a battle against a Wooper, the greatest Pokemon ever. Faint Attack will be a great substitute for Lick. Rock Tunnel is kinda intimidating, because Scratch does next to nothing to Geodude and Onix, two Pokemon in the cave. Level four Ratatta are getting really annoying though (Johto's level curve is pathetic). I do have to say though, the rippling water is a really nice touch, it really helps the ambiance in the cave. The cave isn't too bad (only encountered wild Ratatta -_-) and we get spat out a stone throw away from Azalea Town, which will end this episode. Oh, the derpy Slowpokes applaud Ms. Tea's guts to change her name.

Part 3 - Teddiursa ate the Slowpoketail! (Azalea Town -
Team Rocket has decided to deprive Azalea Town of all its Slowpokes! :O Why must they do such malicious acts?!?! Teddiursa won't have any of it, and wants to go down to the well and beat them personally. But Teddiursa lacks the constitution to shove the Team Rocket Grunt out of the way, so we'll need to find someone with high enough con to do so. This Kurt dude says he'll help us, and he does shove the grunt out of the way. Inside the well, I find him standing up... even though he fell on his back and can't move. What'cha hiding from me Kurt?

The Grunts are definitions of jokes, and they go down without putting up a fight. Oh well, good for me. The first Team Rocket admin has been found, and it is none other than the villainous [mod]safariblade[/mod]. Armed with his Zubat and Koffing, the desire for my demise is very evident in his eyes (toungetwister!). The Koffing is actually fairly resilient, and is 2HKOed by Scratch, my strongest move. It was actually the first challenge of the solo, but it still goes down. I get a Fast Ball, and we go slay some more bugs. The gym puzzle is more difficult than the trainers are, which doesn't say much.

Bugsy's Scyther really shows how annoying U-Turn is in competitive play, even though he's predictable with it. Teddiursa is 3HKOed by U-Turn, so as long as I get in a couple hits, I should be fine. Until I look at Teddiursa's level: Lv.21... Welp, we got more bread on our hands now. Bugsy's Scyther uses Leer, and the Focus Energy and hits me with a crit U-Turn, killing Teddiursa. Which means its over guys. I might try it again, but I wasn't really enjoying myself (I like the older games a lot more, even though the remake added a lot of new stuff). Oh well.
