The Burned Condition: Forgotten?

I was talking with Luispipe there other day, and he told me there are no cards in any of the XY sets that can inflict Burn. I checked, and sure enough, he's right! How crazy is that? I didn't notice it at all until he mentioned it to me.

What do you guys think about this? Does this mean PCL is discontinuing the Burn condition? I personally think so, be feel free to discuss it yourselves in this thread!

Mechanics are just forgotten occasionally. It'll come back sooner or later.

I'm not too sure about this... never has a LvX, * (star), Prime, Lost Zone mechanic or even ex (EX are technically different) been reprinted. Staple (i.e. always reprinted) cards like Pluspower were abandoned after BW, and Pokedex and Revive has not seen return. Heck, even Potion and Pokeball (and Pokemon Catcher) were ignored when printing XY Base, only still being tournament legal due tot he Kalos Starter Decks.
I simply cannot imagine PCL returning the burn condition, or at least any time in the XY series.

I just want to say that when Burn was first introduced, only one card actually inflicted it (Quilava from Neo Genesis, the non-Ken Sugimori art) and it stayed like that for some time

Indeed it wasn't introduced alongside the other 4, and it wasn't even named "Burned" when Quilava used it, IIRC.

But yeah, I feel like PCL is either deleting it altogether or phasing it out to introduce something different.

When it was 'introduced' on Quilava it was referred to as a Char counter.

They may very well be phasing out/phased out burn. Really it's wasn't that good to start with. Without Heatran Lv. X it was only a fifty/fifty chance of doing the damage, poison will do the same thing in between two turns without the flip.

This wouldn't be the first mechanic that is there for a certain amount of time and then gone the next. Lv X Pokemon only lasted for the DP generation, Primes and Legends for the HGSS generation, we did have a time where we didn't have any ex/EX cards, Light Pokemon were only in one set in history (Neo Destiny), Dark Pokemon were only in a few sets, Delta Species Pokemon were only in a few sets (I want this back so bad), Shiny Pokemon have popped up in various incarnations throughout the tcg history, owners Pokemon have popped up in various incarnations throughout history as well and to top that one some were done in an evolution form and some were in SP form, which was another mechanic that fits this category. One can only guess how long we'll have ancient traits and mega Pokemon. We won't get into the MANY cards that are always phased out in history.

I wouldn't be surprised if burn was something very different come the next rotation.
Pokemon has seemed to recently been even more conscious for the competitive, if you look at the trainers that have been coming out.

I would love for burn to be something more crippling. Like cutting damage like it does in the games.
Randomly a mega ton of confusion in this set.

They may be changing how the game is played. Burn condition has been around since gen 1 so if they remove it for awhile they are testing to see how well the game is played without a certain condition. Burn can do a lot of damage every turn even if you use a fire type move on a burned Pokemon. It adds more damage to the fire as they say.:)

Ah... which section (VG or TCG) are you talking about? The burn condition in the TCG (which is what this thread is talking about) doesn't really do decent damage; poison is so much better. And, plus, like no deck ever uses it.

They tried, they really did, with Volcarona DEX, but not even that was enough, as the condition's problem is that the damage that comes from it is unreliable, requiring a flip is what made it differ from poison and what made it bad. On the other side, without the flip, it'd be better than poison. Maybe they'll tweak it, maybe they'll just bury it where all the Atari E.T. cartridges were, only time wil tell

again I think it would be cool if it cut damage, only by like 10, but even then, I think that would be outstanding!
