Chapter 1.
The Beginning of the End
A long time ago, I stumbled on a “virtual world”. This world was known as Pokebeach. Naturally, I was curious. This curiosity was halted when I found out about the $700 price tag on joining this world. What is done at Pokebeach is we play Pokemon. I considered talking to the owner, but I figured he probably didn’t have time.
Seven years later, I was amazing. I was known by every good Pokemon player. I top 32ed at worlds, and was going very well.
I was at the California state championship. I was in the top 2 and was favorite to win. Right before we started our game, a cloaked man came up to us. He claimed that he was the creator of Pokebeach. For the “sport” of the game, he said that he would give a free account to the winner of my game.
I had to win.
Our game started out even. I got my turn two Rampardos (like I always do) against his turn one Toxicroak G. The match is usually an easy win for me. I let my nerves get in the way. I accidentally koed my own Rampardos which let my opponent ko the Rampardos I had to bring up. I lost the first game.
I glanced at my watch. 37 minutes remained. I glanced at my cheat-sheet. When I have 30-40 minutes left, and I’m starting round 2 behind, if I get a T2 Rampardos, I should take the win quickly. I did just that in 9 minutes.
I quickly glanced at my cheat-sheet again. The judge confiscated it before I could figure out what to do. The game ended up going to time. The prizes were two to one, my favor.
I was handed my trophy.
The cloaked man signaled for me to come, so I did. The cloaked man knocked me out.
The next thing I knew, a floating togepi asked me for my username. Somehow, I was in Pokebeach.
I naturally answered Zero. Next I got to choose my appearance. I chose a black cloak and a mask. I’d prefer to be hidden.
The Togepi exploded in a flash. The next thing I saw was a giant beach. It was a giant beach, without water.
I was greeted by a few people. One was made of tofu (or so he said). One was a giant spoon. The last was a Porygon.
“Follow me,” the Porygon said. Unknowing what else to do, I did as he commanded.
How did I get here? Why am I here? Why was I greeted so soon with serious-looking people? Did my trophy make it back to Vegas ok?
