The Motives of Team Skull?

With the latest Corocoro reveal and the newest video, we now know that the evil team of the Alola region will be Team Skull. Like previous evil teams, such as Team Flare and Team Rocket, it can be assumed that this team will have some motives that’ll lead to a final goal, which you, the player, will have to stop. But what will this goal and these motives be? How will Solgaleo/Lunala be a part of these motives? Will Team Skull mainly use Salandit, Yungoos or both? Post your thoughts below!

Well considering they're in the tropical islands of Alola, I'm gonna guess they'll use lots of Dark, and Ghost types. However there motives, while I'm not sure, I have a guess. They mentioned that Sun/Moon has a life theme, and is "teeming with life" right? Well, maybe these people have motives in relation to death. Maybe they want to take the life force of beings Alola to use it for their own purposes. Their goal? Nope. Not to capture the Legendary Pokemon for some ridiculous means, but to possibly take over the ecosystem. Considering they have a name like Team Skull, which instantly makes you think of death, it makes sense to me, but I could be wrong.

Tough to say at this point. We know the Grunts use Zubat (which also means hey Zubat's in this region) and they're actual pirates that steal Pokemon. But I dunno how they'll tie in Skull to the Legendaries. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if there is no tie in and Team Skull is just hanging around. Perhaps Guzma wants the Legendary Pokemon to get revenge on the Trial Captains, who knows.

They just tryna be gangsta. They're flashing their gang signs all in the trailer.

I'm sure these guys are gonna do something like "If Guzma can't be captain, we'll shut down the challenges and start our own thing where he can be on top!" And, by that I mean, I imagine them trying to shut down the challenges and start their own Alola League, maybe even overhearing about a legendary pokemon and stealing it or something.
I actually like this idea by @Chocolate Death in the News Thread, and I think it sounds like something that could happen. One thing I noticed in the trailer is that it looked like Guzma and Kukui know eachother, or at least have something in common with them both being "fellow rejects who could never be captains." I wonder how they know eachother, and if captains is Trial Captains or something else?

The "captains" most likely refers to Trial Captains, which seems to be a great honor to be one. Possibly being a Trial Captain gives you a better shot at becoming a Kahuna. And I agree, Kukui and Guzma most likely know each other. I may even guess they were friends once. Also if Team Skull's motives are revenge, it'll actually be the first time an evil team has done so, which is really surprising late for such a cliche motive.

Team Rocket - Never went after any Legendaries (in-game), though they did create one, but not out of revenge.
Team Aqua and Magma - Sought out their Legendaries to change the world to benefit their ideals.
Team Galactic (or just Cyrus) - Wanted to use the Legendaries to create his own world.
Team Plasma - Obtained their Legendary to prove they were right to the world.
Team Flare - Let's use the Legendary to kill all poor people and rule the world.

I know this is maybe looking into it a little too much, but I think the tagline used in the trailer "Team Skull has a bone to pick with you" possibly has to do with their motives.

What if Team Skull is just a group of people that have been wronged in some way or form and are just out to prove they're the best around by belittling the island trials and their captains. Guzma clearly resents not being able to become a captain, so I feel he's trying to prove to everyone he's better than the captains and will probably try to capture the main legendary to show he's a powerful trainer worthy of being a captain/kahuna.

It seems to me like they're out solely for revenge purposes. By pursuing the box legendary (Solgaleo in Sun and Lunaala in Moon), they will attempt to "right a wrong" by exacting their revenge on the Tribal Captains.

And you, the player character do something early in-game to get in their way and mess up their plans (for whatever reason) and you get put on their enemy list.

Which used to belong to Richard Nixon. Guzma just crossed off Nixon's name and put his.

I think the "revenge" angle is most likely, but I do wish the designers could shake things up by giving us an evil team... that wasn't an evil team. Just imagine if Team Skull just like that particular aesthetic, and since Pokémon doesn't shy away from the ridiculous, imagine if they just kept being in the wrong place at the wrong time. XD
