Chapter 1
Resurrection

Today would have been a normal day like any other. Schools of Magikarp should have been poking around the coral reefs, looking for food. The large Mantine known as Mr. Blue should have been cruising along the surface currents with a Remoraid or two along for the ride. All should have been at peace with the world. Unfortunately, today was far from normal; in fact, it was anything but normal.
A violent storm was raging overhead, churning up the waters of the Sea of Kings. Thunder roared for miles as lighting jumped from cloud to cloud. It was the worst storm that anyone had ever seen, including the elderly Mr. Blue. Startled by a loud thunderclap, the Magikarp hightailed it to a cave in a tall, rocky outcrop nearby. Suddenly, a particularly large lightning bolt came hurtling towards the water. A surge of electricity was sent through the water, striking a handful of the Magikarp. Dazed and confused, the Magikarp began bumping into each other. Ricocheting back and forth, many of them bumped into the sides and roof of the cave, causing a small avalanche of rocks to fall from above. It may just have been a stroke of luck, but none of the Magikarp, save for a baby, noticed that one of the falling rocks was glowing.

The storm subsided by late that afternoon. Mr. Blue and the Remoraid had resumed their swimming, so the Magikarp knew that it was safe to come out of the cave. As they were leaving the cave, the baby Magikarp broke off from the group to check out the funny-looking rock it had seen earlier that day. The avalanche hadn’t carried the glowing rock very far, so it wasn’t hard to find. The baby Magikarp found it nestled in a clump of seaweed. The glowing light coming from the rock was much fainter than before, and it had a huge crack down the middle; it looked a lot like a spiral-shaped shell. Curious, the baby Magikarp prodded the rock with one of its whiskers; it cracked in two and disappeared. Disappointed, the baby Magikarp began to swim back to its group. Just then, it heard a small pop! and quickly turned around. There, sitting behind it, was a spiral-shaped shell with two small eyes and eight little tentacles sticking out of it. It was an Omanyte!

Chapter 2
Who’s that Omanyte?

The baby Magikarp stared at the little creature before it in amazement. It’s an Omanyte! he thought. What’s it doing here? They were all supposed to have died out a long time ago. Summing up his courage, he swam over to the Omanyte and cautiously poked its shell with one of his whiskers. A small cloud of bubbles emanated from somewhere in its mass of tentacles, and one of them reached out and came to rest on the baby Magikarp’s forehead; it was sticky and felt a bit warm.
“My name is Finn,” said the baby Magikarp. ”What’s yours?” The little Omanyte said nothing, but instead retracted its tentacle and emitted a single bubble.
“Do you even have a name?” asked Finn. Again, the little Omanyte sent out just one bubble.
“Is your name Bubble?” he asked. This time, in response, the little Omanyte made a squealing noise and released a large cloud of bubbles; he was clearly very happy.
Content that he had finally received an answer, Finn said goodbye to Bubble and started swimming back to his fellow Magikarp. As he was swimming, he thought he heard a faint whoosh come from somewhere behind him. Deciding that it was just his imagination, Finn continued to swim. Woosh! came the noise again, this time much louder than before. He turned around in amazement to see the newly-revived Bubble, tentacles pulsating, leaving behind a trail of bubbles. Bubble came up to Finn and made another squealing noise.
“Are you following me?” asked Finn. Bubble squealed again and shot a small cloud of bubbles at him. Finn closed his eyes and braced for the impact; it never came. Opening his eyes, he didn’t see the bubbles anywhere. I guess Bubble isn’t old enough or strong enough to use Bubblebeam yet he thought. Come to think of it, the only useful attack I know is Tackle; Splash doesn’t even do anything. Finn turned around and continued on his way back to the group, allowing Bubble to follow him. How was he going to explain this to his mom?
