So I have given it some thought, and I think I'm onto something.
A lot of people thought that a Worlds announcement for the next main series game would be likely, I was one of those individuals. however, after seeing that said game has not been revealed made me think that perhaps they are planning a main game announcement when it's actually relevant.
Let me explain.
Zygarde in this generation, so far has been seriously kept in the dark.
-No TCG cards (Unlike Giratina or Kyurem in previous generations, they received cards before there game was announced)
- Scarce merchandising: It has a keychain, a finger puppet, and a clear file, that's it.
- No further info on it officially rather than a blurb on the official site, the games do not even make any mention of it at all, rather then a NPC mentioning a monster in the mines.
so as of right now, it's fairly unknown.
These past two months we have received the first teases of movie 19 and a silhouette that is undeniably Zygarde. As well as Green blobs that the public does not know anything about, for now. Coro-Coro for September has said they will reveal more info, and inevitably spill the beans on Kaijugarde and the blob.
Last month we got information that Zygarde will be starring in Mega Evolution act 4 along with Blobby.
That being said, Past Mega Evolution specials have had ties into the games, Albeit very loosely, but they have some connections. In ORAS Steven even goes so far as to have text referencing his encounter with Alian in Act 2(?).
Mega Evolution Act 4 is the final Act of the series, and that leads me to believe even further that it's not a coincidence. I strongly believe that this Act will either tie into the plot of the next game, in terms of Zygarde's lore and how it changes form/ Mega Evolves. Like in the past, these Specials share some of the lore and story aspects of the games. I could see Gamefreak holding out until it airs or even before it airs to reveal out next series game.
So when I said a Worlds announcement for the game is irrelevant, i am thinking that Gamefreak is waiting for a time to be right, Around the time a Special where the Big-Bad of the next game is going to have its Anime debut and possibly have most of its lore revealed. I'd say that is a more appropriate time then ever.
