Theory regarding Future Legend Sets

After hearing about the English announcement of the HeartGold and SoulSilver set, one though just randomly crept into my mind:

Why haven't we heard about a Legend2 set for Japan yet?"

During 2008-09, set releases in Japan followed this schedule:

DP5: (Legends Awakened): March 14, 2008
DP6: Intense Fight in the Destroyed Sky (Stormfront): July 10, 2008
Galactic's Conquest: (Platinum): October 10, 2008
Bond to the End of Time: (Rising Rivals): December 26, 2008
Pulse of the Frontier: (Supreme Victors): March 6, 2009
Advent of Arceus: (Arceus): July 8, 2009
HeartGold and SoulSilver: October 9, 2009

By this pattern, Legend2 should have been released around December 25th of this year. We typically hear of new Japanese set releases around 2 months before the release. However, this December 25th release is about one month from today...

Thinking about this, I remembered the two new "Battle Sets" the just came out in Japan. Counting up the unique cards in the set, the total came to about 55. While 55 cards can't make a set, it is a bit too many to just "slop" it into a random set. Even Supreme Victors only took about 30ish cards in from a Gift Set.

A similar situation occurred in late 2007/early 2008 in Japan. DP4 and a new Battle Set had came out toward the end of 2007, and despite set patterns, no news regarding DP5 had even showed up as December 31st passed.

However, DP5 was put on hold, and came out in March of 2008. This picked up the old "set release" pattern once again. Knowing this, how was this "delay" handled in the English version?

First of all, DP4 contained around 145 cards. This numbers is oddly similar to the amount of cards in HeartGold and SoulSilver. The "Battle Set" of that time had 40 to 50 cards, along with a few random promos. Again, the two Battle Sets that have just come out contain this number of cards.

With two radically different sized "sets" to release, how did tPCi handle this? Simply put, they took about 40 cards out of DP4, and delayed them to be released with the Battle Cards. This would generate two 100-card sets.

Great Encounters and Majestic Dawn were the two sets that had this happen. GE had most of DP4 released with it. However, 40 or so cards from the original DP4 were not included. The "Battle Set" (Entry Pack 08) and the leftover DP4 cards then came up to make Majestic Dawn.

With all of this information in mind, we can thus come to a conclusion that the same thing could happen once more. Japan is currently in a similar release situation as they were 2 years ago. Since tPCi generally sticks to the same patterns, this conclusion does not sound far off.

Now, onto a possible issue with this theory: The number of Pokemon Prime. Since there is no Pokemon Prime in the battle sets, how will our theoretical Legend2 get any of them in?

The answer lies in the 40 card delay. tPCi could easily take out 2 Pokemon Prime from the set. Raichu Prime was also just released a promo in Japan. It is also possible that another Pokemon Prime promo could be released between now and May, and could be included in "Legend2". This would put 6 Primes in HGSS, and 4 in Legend2. While not quite even, they are entirely unbalanced...and a third Prime exclusion from HGSS would put it at an even 5-5.

As for Legend cards, I do not currently have a direct answer for that. However, it is interesting to note that there is no "Legend" in the English title of the set block. Something else note-worthy is how there were no Pokemon-Star in EX Emerald, yet there were some in the two sets before it, and in the 7 sets after it. EX Emerald was also a "filler" set, much as this Legend2 would be.

With all of this in mind, we can thus come to the conclusion that:

HGSS will have 40 cards taken out of it, and the remaining 100 will make up our HGSS set in February. In May, the remaining 40 cards will meet up with the "Battle Kit" cards, and create a 95-100 card set.

The Japanese Legend2 will then be released in March 2010, and come out in English in August as our "Legend3". This would fill a similar role as DP5 (Legends Awakened) filled in 2008.

That's the theory. Any comments or problems with this theory? Post them!

It's an interesting theory. I also have been wondering about the lack of a new set. It's a possibility that Japan is trying to keep less distace between us. If everything stands, and we go another month before a new set, we will only be one set away from Japan. I really don't know why the sets are all whacky all of a sudden. It would be nice if the sets were the same for America, and Japan.

I thought the Battle decks would make up HG/SS 2 which sucks because I don't like most of the cards in the decks...

dmaster out.

lolwut? This has absolutely nothing to do with WPM, or the main site. I can post my own theories, ya know.

dmaster: Yeah, if this does end up being correct, I'll probably end up skipping this set, too. However, if some good stuff gets cut from HGSS...=[

Yeah, they'll probably leave enough good stuff for both sets requiring everyone to buy both. :F

dmaster out.

Well did you forget about Slowking great as the promo? The one that was talked about like once and forgot about. Haha. That would make it either 7-4 or 6-5 for prime/great pokemon.
