Tins? Boosters?

Hey guys, I've recently gotten into the game and decided to start building a collection.

The problem now is I don't know where to start. Should I buy other peoples collections off ebay? Should I buy tins? Should I buy boosters? Structure decks?

I don't really have too much spare money at my desposal, so what do you think is the cheapest/most efficient way to start a collection, and hopefully have a playable deck within a few months?

I have about 30 spare pounds to blow a month.

Do not waste your money on packs and boosters. You barely ever get any good cards, and if you do, they are probably still not worth the money you spent on the packs. The best way to start playing is to find a good decklist on the internet (PM if you want one) then start buying them all in singles. Once you have a really good deck, you will start winning packs. Then you can start collecting with those packs. It can be hard to get started, but it's totally worth it in the end.

Well you're a bit limited with only 30 pounds (depending on your local card store) the best thing you can do is buy the cards in singles (gets you what you need at a reasonable price). Or, if you can't do that then the next best thing would be to buy 2 Garchomp C lvX tins if you can find them and with whatever you have left buy HGSS booster packs. Garchomp C lvX is one of (if not the best) the better tins as Garchomp C lvX is a very good card, and if your lucky you might be able to get some of the staple cards in the HGSS packs, namely Pokemon Collector, Pokemon Communication and Double Colorless Energy.

Though it would be much better to go with what GHJamesGH suggested.

GHJamesGH has the right idea. Once you get enough staples(The cards you need in every deck) you can save up and get boxes of each new set as they comes out. A box is usually enough copies of each card you need, and enough tradeable stuff to get the rest that you need.

Booster boxes, displays of 36 packs of a Pokémon TCG set, is the quickest way to go in building your collection for collecting purposes or inventory for deck building.

Noticing you have a set limit of funds to use, the tins are useful. They provide a special card, usually in a promo set, and several booster packs. If you are looking to play right away, I may advise acquiring a preconstructed deck.

Good luck to you in your Pokémon journey!

I suggest you get an Umbreon or Espeon theme deck. They are really good, and come with instructions, a coin, deck box (can't hold sleeved cards), damage counters, and even an Undaunted booster pack. I'd try one of those, and build on to it.

I really shouldn't be the one saying this, but everyone is thinking it. How can you possibly build off any theme decks and make it good without losing money? Don't buy a theme deck, because it is just 11 dollars you are away from creating a truly good deck. The Umbreon and Espeon theme deck are not "really good", they are a waste of money. I only get $40 dollars a month which I also spend on my girlfriend, and 30 pounds is more than that. Please don't listen to anybody that tells you to buy a theme deck.

It's "really good" compared to the evolution lines with other theme decks. I'd never buy 60 seperate cards. Get a theme deck, and you have automatic energy supply and some decent T/S/ST out of those Undaunted theme decks.

the tins are the best way to go!!! you get a special promo card, 4 booster packs, and the awesome tin itself for displaying/storing your cards!!!! the tins have great designs so even if you don't get that many good cards in the boosters you still got the special promo and the nice tin so you will always get something out of your money with the tins!! the promo cards you get in the tins you won't be able get anywhere else!!! so the tins will be worth getting.

i also agree on getting the theme decks because it is already a 60-card deck and you are promised to get strong cards!!!!

I think it's good to do a mix of things, get singles online, get some packs/tins. What I like the most besides boosters is blister packs. They come in 3 packs and currently you have on the shelves:

undaunted undaunted platinum
unleashed unleashed stormfront
heatgold heartgold legends awakened
Arceus Arceus legends awakened

yeah Europe does have Undaunted blisters with the Lapras and Shuckle Promos. there not at my stores yet. my target just got the new Fall 2010 tins last weekend. i want the Lapras Promo especially!!
