DPPt/HGSS Tips for beating Contests in Pearl?

I've gotten that platinum flag thing.

I've beaten the Elite Four.

I've completed the National Dex.

All there's left for me to do is get those 100 consecutive wins and beat the Master Rank in the Contests.

I'm using a Smart Banette right now, and its got Sucker Punch, Shadow Ball, Faint Attack, and I forgot the last attack. (It's a basic performance move.)

I keep failing at dressing Banette up, and I always get three or four hearts...while everyone else gets seven or eight. This is pretty much why I lose these contests.

So can I get some tips?

Remember to use Poffins to help for Banette, once you get those you'll get many many hearts from the audience and it will pretty much soar you up to Master Rank.

Only certain dress-up items give you 'smart points'
Others can take them away. I suggest you looking up which items to use for specific contests.

I already maxxed out its sheen in Smartness. Is it best to use as many decorations as possible?

There is a man in the northeastern house in Pastoria that will give you a scarf if your Pokemon's sheen is maximized in a stat. Smart is the green scarf, I believe. Having your Banette hold that scarf before entering (its a hold item) will make its appeal increase signifigantly in a smart contest. If you've already done that, I don't know what else to do.

I assume you have already tried PMJ's guide and various guides on GameFAQs, yes?

Lol, I haven't checked back in this thread. I walked around Amity for a while, picked up some rare items, and got lucky. I won without the scarf, though it probably would've saved me tons of time. One more star left!

NO! Only use the items that go with the theme. But yeah, use as many of those as possible I think.
