I know that you are not allowed to you use supporters on the first turn of a game, but can trainers be used? Some people I know say you cannot use them, but I looked at a dragon frontiers rulebook and it says that just supporters can't be used on the first turn. Any clarification on this would be appreciated!

Read the Diamond and Pearl rulebook. Those are the updated rules and I believe that you can't use them.

If you are the first player to go you cannot play any trainers of any kind(supporters, tools, stadiums, etc.) If you go second you may.
