Playthrough Transferring a Pokemon from Gen 1 to Gen 3?

Hi guys!
Chica here.

I just came from my local Gamestop where I talked with one of the guys who worked there, who claimed he transferred a Moltres from Pokemon Red Version, to Pokemon Silver, to Pokemon Crystal, to Fire Red, to Black.

Is that even possible? I debated with him for a good ten minutes telling him once you had a critter in Gen 2, on Gold, Silver or Crystal --- it was impossible to make the leap to Gen 3 (Ruby Sapphire Emerald FireRed LeafGreen).

Who's right?

Did he actually do that? He claims to have done it as each successive game came out, and he had to do it with the ORIGINAL DS and original cables. (this DS had a port for the RSE GBA games and a DS game) He swears it can be done and offered to sell me a $49.00 original DS and loan me his special original cables.

sorry if this is the wrong section I tried to pick the closest one possible!

Many thanks guys

--- Chica

The coding was so different in the first two generations that a transfer wouldn't be possible. They changed too much about the Pokémon (gaining abilities and other data being stored differently or changed/added/removed completely). Everything from generation 3 and up can still be transferred to the current versions, XY.

For the record, this is widely believed (though I'm not sure if it's ever been confirmed) to be the reason why Gen 1 and Gen 2 were remade as FRLG and HGSS, respectively, and also why some people believe that we won't get Hoenn remakes, because you can still trade from the GBA games.
