XY Two games at once?

I'm getting both OR and AS this Friday when the games come out. In the past I've always gotten both game but only used one. Has anyone ever tried to play both games both basically back to back at the near the same time? How does this work out? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Is it even worth doing it this way?

I thought about it.. Maybe if my little brother won't play with me I will play them both and every time I will win a gym leader I will have both of my characters battle each other to see who's really better
