Type Support in X and Y

Each new set seems designed to offer support to a certain type. X and Y gave fairies tons of support, then Flash Fire came and gave fire a little support, followed by the amazing fighting support in Furious Fists, while the next set appears to be continuing the trend by offering Psychic types support.

But what I'm beginning to notice is that each type gets a different kind of support.

The fairies in X and Y have been about mobility. We have Aromatisse to move energy around and the stadium to make it easier to retreat. Even lesser played things like Slurpuff fit that theme by protecting your pokemon from disruptive stasis effects.

The fire support in Flash Fire is little, but the big card, Blacksmith, follows a trend of fire pokemon getting different forms of energy acceleration, Emboar (from the hand) Plasma Chandelure (from the deck) and now blacksmith (from the discard pile).

Fighting pokemon are about increasing damage output. We have the stadium, the Machamp, and even a special energy to increase damage to absurd levels.

The up and coming psychic sets seems to focus on reducing the energy costs of pokemon. The special energy reduces the retreat cost of the pokemon it's attached to while the stadium reduces the attack cost by 1 C. I wouldn't be surprised if we see more stuff of this nature (probably in the form of ability or tool card).

Pokemon has always done stuff like this. Grass pokemon, even far back as base set, has always been about healing; and it's continuing this trend by giving grass a special energy that heals, several pokemon with healing abilities, and even ways to increase HP (Floette). But this set makes it more obvious.

I wonder what the next type to get support will be.

I have the Resilient Life Deck, and I one hundred percent agree with you on how Fairies are getting support. Once my Armomatisse is out, my Xerneas sweeps by constantly using Rainbow Spear and simply moving energies around. For psychic types, I feel that status conditions and overall messing around with the other player's deck is key. For example, right now in Furious Fists, a Drowzee can make all coin flips tails for the next turn, which can really frustrate people that depend on those flips. By expanding on that, Psychic types can cut through the opponent's strategy and then use some really powerful moves to sweep through.

It seems like metal pokemon's strength lies with protective abilities. Plasma Klang protecting all of your metal pokemon from EX attacks while the upcoming Aeglislash EX doesn't let anything with special energy touch it.

EDIT: Doh! Wrong card.

It does? This makes me happy I was just thinking about how much I missed Scizor Prime... I'm glad we have something like that coming.

Dialga EX has an attack for MCC which disables the defending Pokémon EX to attack while Aegislash EX has an ability, which disables any Pokémon with special energies to damage it.

I got the two mixed up, thinking Dialga was the one with the ability when I meant to say Aegislash. Though Dialga (along with Cobalion LT) does fit the theme of blocking certain attacks.
