Ruling Typhlosion Prime and rescue energy

If i attack with my typhlosion prime and i KO my opponent's pokemon that has a rescue energy with the attack do they discard the energy first or get the pokemon back?

All effects of an attack are resolved before KOs are checked for and rescue energy activates. So if hit by flare destroy it is gone before the pokemon is KOed and has a chance of using it.
