Ruling Unown G questions

1) Do I have to have any cards attached to it to discard to use his effect? It says you may discard all cards attached to Unown G and attach Unown G to one of your pokemon. So do I have to something attached to him to discard?

2) So what EXACTLY does he prevent? I know this has been gone over several times but I just want to make sure I got it down. I know it prevents special conditions. But say I have unown g attached to one of my pokemon, and my opponent has Ray ex d out and uses his first attack and targets a pokemon with a poke-power. Does it do 30 or 50? And is placing damage counters prevented?

^Well that was helpful wasn't it?

1) No, you do not need any cards attached to it to use the power. It only says this so that if you have any energy attached to it that energy doesnt get attached to the Pokemon you attach Unown G to. Its just one of those Phrases they seem to copy and paste on all of the Powers like this.

2) As it says, it prevent all effects. Rayquaza ex d does not place damage counters, it deals damage so that would not be prevented. Things that cause Special Conditions would be prevented as you already know. It prevents things such as Galledes first attack Sonic Blade, it prevents just about anything that doesnt say "deals X damage" or that has a base damage next to the attack. It only prevents effects that happen to the Pokemon that Unown G is attached to, any effect that happens to the player is not prevented.

I bet there is some case that I am forgetting and soon Kaga or someone intelligent will come and correct me. But for now that's everything that comes to mind regarding Unown G.

No. It's just saying if there is anything attached, it gets discarded.

It prevents effects done to that Pokemon.

Yes. Those are effects done to your Pokemon.

50. The damage calculation isn't something done to your Pokemon, it's just a math thing. Unown G only prevents things that happen directly to your Pokemon (except damage).

See the Compendium for rulings on Gallade's Psychic Cut, as it's the same concept. Unown G doesn't prevent your opponent from flipping prizes to increase his damage, as that's not something done to your Pokemon.

Yes. Placing damage counters is considered an effect, and it's one done to your Pokemon.
