Just seeing if there any any viable options out for a non GX/EX attacker for my Lapras Turbo Box deck. Thank you in advance.

The only one I can think about rn are Regular Alolan Ninetales from Burning Shadows and Shining Vulcanion and Keldeo from Shining Legends which both have interesting Ideas. Don't know how good they will be yet doe.

Keldeo might be an interesting play with the deck. I like the fact that you have a built in Rescue Stretcher with Keldeo which I feel would make him more useful than Volcanion. Keldeo attack also seems to be really good and you can use him just like Zoruark which has been fairly good in this format.

Let's be real - there isn't one. In Lapras, your goal is to stream Blizzard Burns over and over and over again. You want a Manaphy on board and two Lapras with three Water Energy on them. That is it. To try and toss in another attacker is asking for inconsistency and isn't ideal. I just want to address that straight up.

Shining Volcanion is cool because you could do 160 or 190 with Choice Band and Volcanion can help with some math. 210 Knocks Out Ninetales and 240 Knocks out Gardevoir, which is pretty dope because those numbers are hard to reach. It also has the benefit of having Lightning-type Weakness, and not Grass, meaning it can take a hit from a Golisopod First Impression no problem. I like that.

Keldeo is alright, but underwhelming in my opinion. For two Water Energy, you can only do 120/150 with Choice Band. Unfortunately, this is something your opponent can play around. Thankfully, our format is pretty Brigette-based, so this might not be as much of a problem, but it's something to think about.

The key strategy for Lapras is to overwhelm the opponent before they can do anything. To try and tinker with the deck's core by adding cute little techs isn't always optimal. Try building the Lapras list straight up without any bells and whistles and adjust it as needed.

Hope that helps.

My Pokemon list is pretty straight up. Just figured I'd try out something different. I don't see the problem in experimenting a little. My Pokemon lineup consist of this. Also I have been wanting to add in a Tapu Finni GX as well.
2-2 Octillery,
1-Wishi-Washi (just cant get myself to dump this cute little guy)
4-Lapras GX
1-Manaphy EX
1-Lele GX(it's the only copy I have)

Oh there isn't a problem with experimenting, but in the end you're going to want to avoid extra fluff that isn't needed.

Like, what does Wishiwashi do for your deck? It's not even a backup attacker lol

Wishi-washi ability Cowardice lets you pick him back up and put him in your hand. So you retreat Lapras into Wishi Washi and use his ability and put him in your hand then you can put Lapras back into the active to attack again. This is especially good when you miss an elixer and dont have a second Lapras loaded up.

Ohhh wow, I like that actually. Nice tech man! Interesting stuff.
Thanks man. it definitely has paid off and he shines in some matchups but I feel like there could be better options perhaps. Hence the post. I had a Glaceon EX in it as well for awhile as an alternative attacker which is nice for stalling against evolution decks while you get set up but there's a lot to the core of the deck and I'm afraid to keep teching because of clunkiness as you mention before. I already have problems of bricking hard with it.Maybe that's just the nature of this deck but it's a lot of fun to play though. Anyways if your interested in the deck list I have we can discuss through message so it doesn't clutter this thread up.

I thought of Glaceon but she didn't fit the non-EX profile you were asking for. The problem with Glaceon is that everyone runs Lele, which is a built-in out to Crystal Ray. So that kinda stinks.

You can PM me if you want, I ran Lapras in Expanded but it's a different deck. I have no experience with Lapras in Standard but I could give it a peek.
