Ruling Volcanion-EX and Hex Maniac

Hi Professors!

Say I use Volcanion-EX's Steam Up, then play a Hex Maniac, then attack with Volcanion-EX. Is Steam Up's +30 damage still applied to the attack damage? Or does Hex Maniac shut off Steam Up's effect?

I assumed the damage would not be applied in this case. Volcanion's ability is still the cause of the added damage. The ability doesn't place an effect, it itself is the effect. That's my guess at least.

I would greatly appreciate some help.

Hex only stops the Ability from being used. It does nothing to the effect that is already in play.
