i think we might enter a age where big high cost pokemon rule with volcarona


Search your deck for a Basic Pokémon and put it onto your Bench. Then, search your deck for up to 2 basic Energy cards and attach them to that Pokémon. Shuffle your deck afterward.


first turn volcarona can attack bring out a tyranitar EX and put 2 dark on it

second turn spirit link mega evolve double colorless and play a golbat or crobat

tyranitar falls? time to sun birth again

ampharos switch the dark for electric and no need to bat

giratina EX easy way to get the psychic and grass then just add a double dragon or colorless

up against night march? pull out a toad

opponent loading energies on 1 pokemon? pull lugia out

what rayquaza deck wouldent love a card that every turn puts out a rayquaza and puts 2 basic energies on it you can do it till volcarona dies or you run out of rayquazas

Doubt it. Volcorona is an easy KO and Lugia-EX isn't exactly that op, only doing ~120 per turn (3 Energy, 2 Energy, Band). Basically both are just as powerful as Riachu XY, Skyfield, M-Ray, P-Groud, Bats etcetc. None of them are exactlty op.
 
Volcorona is a difficult card in my eyes. Were this not a OHKO format I would call it format breaking. But sadly, I think using your first turn supporter for Wally to get a turn 1 Sun Bath makes it less effective than just a standard draw supporter and normal set up means. It's only two energy. There is nothing in this format that needs more than two energy that can't use a DCE. I'd rather take the Turn 1 attach on my Pokemon to be set up than use Volcorna.

Plus, to get it consistent, you're dedicating a hell of a lot of deck space to a card with marginal upside and no upside late game.

I think Volcorna hates this format.

your not even looking at the right card....
 
Volcarona is a 4/10 at best. Using an attack to accelerate energy (with no damage - mega Man is pretty beast) is always kinda meh compared to ability based acc. Rayqauza? Mega Turbo or Reshiram. Other non mega decks? bronzong now with level ball reprint.

And the search is kinda not needed too. With ultraball, level ball, and Hoopa, its super easy to get pokemon you need in a certain turn.

EDIT: Actually Geomancy is pretty cool. But the difference being its a Basic, so the amount of effort to get one out is minimal.

To me at least, it seems like he thonks you are talking about Plasma Lugia. That said, I agree that Lugia Bandit Ring won't amount to much. Even against something with 4 Energy on it, you are doing 120-160 damage, and tbh ifFsomething does have 4 Energy on it, it is highly likely to OHKO Lugia. It does not even have Mewtwo EXs niche for countering Psychic weak Pokemon.
 
What about using him to power up Primal Groudon under Item lock? Get Groudon on the bench and attach 2 Energy. Not bad to me.

Other posts I'm seeing say use Bronzong or M Manectric. They don't fit in every deck. Bronzong only attaches to the bench and 2 Megas in a deck seems clunky.
 
Here's a thought: this actually makes Beautifly AOR... a pretty viable card in it's own right.

Search Wurmple, 2 Grass Energy, Broken Vine Space into Silcoon and then Beautifly, only need to attach one Energy to start attack. Now not only do you have an EX Blocker but one that's pretty easy to set up and can be given a safety cushion by PLF Exeggutor by shutting off items... at least before it gets rotated out.
 
Or just play the stadium and Ultra Ball/Wally for the two cards you need. Since you'd be using Wally anyway to evolve into Volcarona, you may as well cut out the middleman and save yourself an attachment.

Volcarona is fun but basically worthless. You will be better served by just searching out and setting up the Pokemon you want to power up.
