Wailrod & Charizard... value mystery?!?

I made this topic to ask for an explanation about some EX's value.
For example, Wailord EX goes for 50-60$. WHY is that... Stormfront is being released soon and it's from EX: SandStorm? Is it missprinted and I'm not aware of that?
Second question, the Charizard EX... FR/LG EX card that keeps RAISING it's value... why is THAT?
RH TV Reporter from EX: Dragon... I know this has been printed only 200 or 500, not sure anymore. Even if so, WHY did that happen?
I think Nintendo isn't doing "missprint", I'd bet those are "purpose"-prints... they put a little glow on a card and print them 100x less then any other card... saying it's a missprint and that's the most valuable card in the stock.
If someone can explain, I'd appreciate.

Thanks in advance,

Wailord ex has an incredibly high amount of HP (making most children drool over it) and nice Charizard ex are getting harder to find because there aren't many out there, and lots already have said drool on them.

It all has to do with collectors.
The reason why Charizard EX is so much money , is because it's really rare and it's a high want for collectors.
Hope that helps.

have you ever wondered wqhy the base set charizard, charizard*, charizard EX, ect have always been worth more? it's because charizard was one of the first pokes that could hit for 120 damage so everone was like OMG 100 DAMAGE FTW!!!!!! so now charizard is one of the most wanted pokemon and whenever it comes out it's always worth more than the regular EX, star, ect. wailord is just because of the 200 HP ZOMG'ness of it

Hehe, that's just stupid. I remember a kid who bought Latias Trainer Kit (with FR/LG, HL and TRR boosters in it) in my local store where my league is being played. He pulled CHARIZARD EX but he wouldn't trade it. He was with his momther and grandmother I assume and I never saw him again... only God knows where that Char ended.
And THAT wouldn't be bad if I wouldn't remember at least 5 of same examples... just sad.

Charizard's popularity from the card game grew way outside of the franchise too. I remember an episode of Pelswick that referenced it. (Pelswick was a show on Nickelodeon.) In fact, if there's any Pokémon other than Pikachu that any random person on the street can conjure up in their heads, it's Charizard. And it's all thanks to that stupid Fire Spin attack, the 120 HP, and how at Level 74, Charizard was the highest-leveled Pokémon in the Base Set.

One rule of thumb: Big numbers on the card make collectors want to have it. Based on my middle school experiences, most collectors don't know the first thing to playing the game, which is why cards from older sets are often worth huge amounts. They see the big numbers and figure the card must be powerful in some way. (Some play Pokémon cards like War. It's downright abstract sometimes.) Just you wait...the Great Encounters Wailord is going to go way up in price, so hang on to them if you have them.

(All Mews cost hefty amounts too.)

That's TOTALY true!
I couldn't agree more with you, and yes... I will hang onto my GE Wailords ^^ Got only 1 ATM but I will go after them... and after SW Charizards too. :p
Thanks for the advice... it might be obvious but it sure is very helpfull ^^

I took a look at that one, and wow, that one will definitely be something to invest in, considering how much in common it has with Base Set Charizard.

People will want to get the original more than anything else though. We'll have to wait until another Pokémon comes along with 150 or more HP or does at least 150 damage for something to be REALLY valuable. Like Mesprit Lv. X. Both the tournament players and the collectors are after that one. If I get one from a pack, I'll sell it right away.

Hehe, okay. That is true... I will start looking at cards from that perspective for a while now... wish me luck ^^
