Ruling Wally's Training

With Wally's Training can you go straight from basic to stage 2 pokemon. I'm nopt to sure as it only says "search your deck that evolves from your active pokemon". Treeko for example, Grovyle evolves from Treeko so thats fine but a Sceptile evovles from Grovyle and not Treeko. So technically it wouldn't work, would it?. If you can please help me.
