Fun Was This Card Ever Played Competitively?

Bidoof-Diamond-and-Pearl-70.jpg

This card is the Bidoof printed in the Diamond/Pearl base set and it is the Bidoof card with two attacks for one colorless energy. One attack was amnesia and the other scavenge. Amnesia made it so your opponents pokemon couldnt use an attack of your choice, and scavenge let you search your discard pile for a trainer, and put it in your hand. I feel like this card had/has a lot of utility. Do we think if it was reprinted it would see similar play?

That's kinda funny actually. I think it could be used as a 1-of, though I can't think of anything in particular that would use it.

so plump. It's interesting that its only got +10 weakness instead of 2x. That would be a nice thing to see on some new cards

Nope. While a cute card, Bibarel never saw play, so neither did Bidoof. DP was around when the meta was very diverse and consistency was key, so, while the attacks were nifty, they weren't ground-breaking enough to really help players out with their decks.

I just noticed that Bidoof is a...plump mouse? ...that's definitely a beaver.

he doesn't actually become a beaver until he turns into Bibarel. Until then, he remains a lowly plump mouse

Idk, you either stall them out for a few turns, or you give up your immunity (and a prize) for one turn to grab a single trainer. Hypnotoxic Laser and retreating also bypass Amnesia. Could be cool if it's thrown on a basic that has a good evolution in the future, but not as a low HP basic with no intention of evolving. :/

Semi-related that might add something to this discussion, baby Pokemon in some formats have mechanics that have a low (or no) cost attack that are really great early in the game. Good examples are Cleffa (shuffle hand and draw 6) and Tyrogue (30 damage and ignores resistance/weakness) in the HGSS / early BW era. They were pretty safe too, since their retreat was always zero and their attacks put them to sleep, where their abilities would prevent damage from attacks as long as they remained asleep. I don't know how effective baby Pokemon would be in today's metagame, but they were pretty cool when I would play a few games in the HGSS era.

Well if in some weird format you find people playing winning decks that rely on pokemon with only one attack (Say Mega Rayquazza) and this card is allowed then it could cause a bit of a nuisance but not sure how much of a credible threat it would be as you could probably play some switch or escape ropes to get around it. Not gonna lie, something like this on a 90-120hp basic would be pretty good at countering toad and a lot of modern decks. Especially if it did like 30 or 40 damage.

On the same topic (kinda) Jungle MR. Mime, total beast mode with bats and laser bank deck. A lot of decks out there just can't swing for ten or twenty damage, making him a total wall like safeguard but better, with a cool reverse outrage thing going on. Throw in a set of robo subs or something (there is a massive gap in my knowledge of pokemon tcg between neo and plasma) and a consistent deck engine and you have the best part of a deck right there. Maybe hard charm would work in there too? I'm not sure how his ability would interact with it.

You could play it with Giant Plant Forest + Victreebel/Dragalge, discard for Poison/Confusion, Hypnotoxic Laser for sleep, lock attacks with Amnesia, use the 2nd attack to get lasers back and SLOWLY WATCH YOUR OPPONENT DIE.

XY Simisage and PRC 40 Whiscash have this effect for a single colorless energy while doing 20. Not a basic, but they can be Wally'd first turn, and Simisage will gain access to Giant Plant Forest when we get AOR. They're good for delaying your opponent if they use Megas but no Silent Lab or Celebi EX. That would be pretty funny if a counter Mega deck became Simisage, AOR Ariados, AOR Vileplume or Bats, and Giant Plant Forest/ Faded Town. Well crap, it actually would counter Night March and Flareon to.
